Add 240GB of SSD storage to your 11" or 13" MacBook Air with the 240GB Aura 6G SSD and Envoy Storage Solution for MacBook Air (2012 Edition) from OWC / Other World Computing. This drive is compatible with 11" / 1.7 and 2.0 GHz MacBook Airs released in June 2012 (MacBookAir5,1) and 13" / 1.8 & 2.0 GHz MacBook Airs released in June 2012 (MacBookPro5,2).
This SSD connects to your MacBook Air using an mSATA connection and features no moving parts, helping to protect it from accidental bumps and drops, as well as achieve faster data transfer speeds. Having no moving parts also means that this SSD will receive less wear and tear, as there are no read and write heads for the SSD media to come into contact with. In terms of speed, the drive offers sustained reads of up to 501 MB/s, sustained writes of up to 503 MB/s, random 4K reads of up to 60,000 IOPS, random 4K writes of up to 60,000 IOPS, and read & write latencies of less than 0.1 ms. It also features non-recoverable read errors of less than 1 sector per 1016 bits read and built-in BCH ECC data reliability of up to 55 bytes correctable per 512-byte sector. It uses Tier 1 Major Multi-Level Cell (MLC) High-Performance Async-NAND Flash and a SandForce 2281 Series processor.
Once you remove the native internal storage from your MacBook Air, it may be placed and used within the OWC Envoy, a USB 3.0 external storage solution that is capable of speeds up to 500 MB/s and also USB 2.0 backwards compatible. It is bus powered, meaning that it does not require any AC power. As a Plug and Play solution, simply plug the USB cord from the Envoy into your system and the Envoy is ready to go.
Please be aware that the Aura 6G SSD is not compatible with 2010 and 2011 MacBook Air 11 and 13" models with model IDs MacBookAir3,1, MacBookAir3,2, MacBookAir4,1, and MacBookAir4,2.
Intelligent Block Management & Wear Leveling - Automatically distributes data evenly across the SSD
Intelligent Read Disturb Management - Spreads the active read/write across the flash components eliminating data corruption caused by constant use
Intelligent "Recycling" - Advanced free space management gradually re-writes data across the SSD over time to ensure data never gets corrupted
RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements) - Helps protect the data on your drive similar to having a RAID setup
ECC Protection - For long data retention and drive life
