    Pelican EL30 reviews

EL30 Elite Vacationer Luggage with Enhanced Travel System (Gray and Black) is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the Money. I picked one up thinking it would be a typical Durable Pelican Case, I was completely wrong. It is way too heavy and fragile. The wheels are not well designed and the case came out of the airport luggage carousel with a large crack on the side. Not usual Pelican durability at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally - A Great TRAVEL Case! I had been searching for a travel case for some lighting gear and was really not sure what to buy. I called to speak with a B&H rep and he recomemnded this new Pelican luggage. I LOVE it! It is large enough for two monolights and a softobox or a few medium umbrellas and then a bunch of accesories. It is padded inside but I liek that it is just an open compartment - no dividers. The gray zipper cases it comes with are very functional too. And I could even use this item as luggage. I plan to use this for my gear for local jobs and for airtravel. Gear protected all in one sexy case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good, it's luggage, it's a Pelican(kinda) I like most things about it. It rolls well but the wheels started making noise after the first trip with the case. The hinges are an excellent solution to keeping the case secure and not letting someone just pop out the hinge pins, but they do little to keep the two halves lined up properly. The latches feel kinda cheap but it's probably part of cutting the weight down. The weight is reduced vs a regular pelican by thinning of the walls, which is no problem, the case is still protective for any luggage appropriate items, you could probably check a laptop with no problems(other than TSA messing with your laptop that is). The Pelican accessories that come with it are fine, toiletry bag, garment bag, shoe bag, laundry bag which I use as triple shoe bag instead. The lid compartment works well also, I like the mounting system, easy to remove if I don't need it. No problems with the TSA lock yet like others have mentioned, but it doesn't work quite how the instructions say, you have to figure it out yourself. I'm not entirely convinced that the case is waterproof but I haven't tested it at all, it just seems more like luggage than a Pelican.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from doesn't deserve the name Pelican Pelican Elite Luggage LG-BA30 30 August 2016. When I heard about the Pelican Elite BA30 luggage case I was excited. I have travelled worldwide with traditional Pelican cases and they withstand any abuse. I rely on them to get my gear safely from here to there, and store my gear while there. The new Elite Luggage series promised much of the traditional Pelican ruggedness and reliability, with less weight and a more tourist look that might not attract thieves so much (once, on a flight through Bangkok Airport, someone tried unsuccessfully to break open my sturdy old Pelican 1560 with a heavy blunt tool yes, unsuccessfully, leaving gouges on the case but not getting into it!). So my expectations of this new Pelican were high. Also high was the price very high in fact but I reckoned its worth it if the case is all its hyped up to be. I purchased the Elite 30 and while it did protect my gear on a trip to Papua New Guinea, that is about all the good I can say. The lock was giving trouble from the start. I found it impossible to set it up per Pelicans instructions. Eventually I did lock it, after an hour or more fiddling with it. On arrival, to my dismay, I could not open it. In desperation I used a big screwdriver and, again to my dismay, found it easy enough to pop open with a screwdriver. So no real security despite all the hype. Next, on the trip it acquired a distinct pushed in look after other bags were pilled on it. Returning home, Pelican helpfully replaced it with a new one. I was happy because it was sure I had simply gotten a lemon and had been unlucky. The new one would be the dream come true. Not so. It was exactly as bad as the first one. The frustrating fiddling with the ridiculous locking mechanism all over again. And once again, not being able to open it on arrival and breaking the lock again so I could get out my stuff Please dont ask, Did you follow instructions?. So there I was, travelling around Europe with a case I could not lock. Pelican does not provide any way to use padlocks with this case. Next, my Pelican Elite Luggage 30 comes off the baggage carousel in Charles de Gaulle Airport with a big split in the outer shell. I could not believe my eyes when I examined the outer shell, a thin, flimsy, brittle sheet of plastic. It would not withstand a drop from any height. So now, after going through two of these worthless Pelican Elite traveler cases, I have learned my lesson. Im on the road again with my trusty twenty-year-old Samsonite suitcase which cost me one sixth the price of the Pelican Elite and never gave me any trouble. Plus, my Samsonite is half as heavy as the Pelican so I can bring more stuff and remain within airline the baggage weight limits. Well done Samsonite! Pelican, better to stay out of the travel suitcase market altogether!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Problematic Took delivery of this item while on the road, and straight out of the box it had a serious crack on the side. Returned that one for a new one and this one had a seam splitting on the side molding. Additionally, the programmable combo lock no longer works. Reading other reviews on the net, this is a common issue. Not recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful This suitcase is huge and sturdy and spacious but not too heavy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy I like the packing organizers a lot, as well as the case. The only downside compared to normal baggage, is the weight, but that's something hard to avoid with protective luggage. I travel a lot, mostly work related, and this case will be thoroughly tested for the upcoming year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged Takes a beating and keeps on ticking. I got it for protection for domestic and international travel, what you compromise in base weight is worth the protection and security it provides.
