The MIOPS Camera Trigger is a versatile way to capture images using lightning, sound, or laser to trigger your camera or flash. It features six different modes of operation with adjustable sensitivity depending on your given shooting situation.

In addition to the lightning, sound, laser, timelapse, and HDR modes enable additional creative output. An external port can connect to various sensors to trigger your camera based on variables such as temperature, pressure, or humidity. An app for either iOS or Android allows you to control the MIOPS from your smartphone using Bluetooth connectivity. When not using a smartphone, all functions can be controlled by a color LCD screen on the unit.

Lightning Mode
A built-in light sensor detects changes in light and triggers your camera's shutter in just a few nanoseconds. You can capture only bright lightning strikes, or the smallest strikes, simply by adjusting the sensitivity. This mode can also be used to capture fireworks, or other events where you need to capture images based on changes in light.
Laser Mode
The MIOPS has a built-in sensor to detect when a laser beam is broken, thereby triggering your camera's shutter. This is useful for detecting subjects such as water drops, animals, or intruders when conducting surveillance.
Sound Mode
MIOPS's built-in microphone can detect sound, triggering your camera or flash to capture things like breaking glass, or a popping balloon. You can adjust the delay of the trigger as well as the sensitivity of amount of sound needed to trigger the shutter.
Timelapse Mode
This mode lets you specify the interval time anywhere between one second and one hour, as well as how many photos to take. The LCD screen will turn off to save energy, allowing you to take a timelapse photo for days, or even months if you use an external power source.
HDR Mode
Even if your camera doesn't have a bracketing feature, MIOPS allows you to set a center exposure, as well as the over and under exposures needed in order to make an HDR image.
External Port
A port on the MIOPS can accept any external trigger that has an output signal between 0V and 3V, such as a temperature, pressure, or humidity sensor.
Combining Sensors
You can combine sensors with MIOPS's Scenario feature by creating a custom scenarios with up to five different steps. For example, you can set the MIOPS to start taking timelapse photos only after it detects lightning.
Triggering Your Camera and Flash
MIOPS has two dedicated outputs, one for a flash, and another for a camera. They are electrically isolated from each other, reducing risk of a short circuit. The MIOPS trigger can be used with multiple cameras (not simultaneously) by simply changing the camera connection cable.
Mini-USB Port
The mini-USB port allows you to charge your Li-ion battery, as well as update the MIOPS's firmware.
Compatibility
MIOPS can be used with any cameras which have a remote shutter trigger port or an IR port, and any and flash units with a PC sync jack.

Miops MIOPS Reviews

Mine doesn't work often

I get all of the functions to work in perfect settings, sometimes, rarely when I want to and none of the features that I purchased it with work. Terrible customer support from MIOPS has me looking for something else.

Works as expected but make sure you get a hot shoe adapter.

It appears to work as advertised with testing although I don't have a laser pointer yet to test that function. Lightning does trigger the shutter but it really needs a bolt of lightning to get an image. Just a flash without a bolt and you get a mostly black frame at the recommended settings (from an article). My issue is as another person pointed out the build quality. There is nothing to tighten the remote to the hot shoe so it will fall out easily if you pick up your camera and don't keep it level. Mine fell on its first real use and hit the floor hard enough to open the casing. I could pop the casing back together and it appears to still function with testing but the light opening covering came out and the display is now ajar. I wouldn't be surprised if the laser pointer part will not work properly. Contacted MIOPS and they said to be a hot shoe adapter-why they couldn't design the product like a pocket strobe I don't know. I'm going to order an adapter and play with it some more and see if it will charge and work with a laser pointer and decide if I should get a new one because I do like it.

not for lightning

I have got some awesome lightning shots over the years by using the old method of keeping the shutter open until the lightning strikes. I wanted something for daytime lightning as I was going to the Grand Canyon during Monsoon season. Miops would detect lightning at night, but for the most part fire the camera too late. I could not even get daytime shots. Still looking for a trigger that works.

Great for Special Uses

In our busy studio, we're pleased with this little trigger which gives us versatility for some specialized action-stopping shoots. The microphone is a bit small and takes some learning to use, but with some patience we've gotten good results. We'd recommend this for sound triggering if you can get the trigger close to your subject.

Such nice (remote) control!

I was playing with this thing over the weekend - using the sound activation, the lightning mode (by quickly flashing a light at it) and the laser (a light shining on it that has a shadow passed over is enough to trigger it if sensitivity is turned up). What a fun tool - can trigger the camera, and a flash with a cable. Everything worked perfectly. Looking forward to a thunderstorm to do an actual lightning capture - the main reason I bought it.

Doesn't work

I think my unit is possessed. It triggers all on it's own regardless of what mode it's in. Or it just does nothing at all (again, regardless of what mode it's in) I've tried the Sound mode, which works sometimes but is very inconsistent. Just when I think it's good to go it triggers 5-6 times all on it's own. And yes, I've played around with adjusting the sensitivity. Same problems with the Laser mode. Haven't bothered to try anything else since I mainly bought it for the sound and laser features. I've updated the firmware to the latest version v1.9.4 in the hopes that it would make a difference but no good. I bought this unit so long ago that I don't have my receipt anymore so I guess I'm stuck with it. Must have gotten a lemon. Buyer beware

So easy, so seamless and the app... yes it's not cheap but wow does it cover all the important "remote function" bases.

question

What B&H Miops Kit should I buy for my Fuji X-T1?
Asked by: John I.
Unfortunately, Miops does not have a kit that includes a triggering cable for use with Fujifilm cameras. However, you may purchase the Miops Camera Trigger, B&H # MICT, and purchase the Vello 2.5mm Remote Shutter Release Cable for Select Fujifilm Cameras, B&H # VERCCF12.5, separately for your triggering needs with the Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera.
