Audioengine B1 overview

  • 1Description

Add wireless music streaming to your audio system with the B1 Bluetooth Music Receiver from Audioengine. This unit has Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and features an operating distance of up to 100'. In addition to Bluetooth aptX compatibility, the B1 incorporates the AKM AK4396A digital to analog converter (DAC) for high-quality audio playback. For connectivity, stereo RCA and digital optical outputs are onboard; a stereo RCA cable is included. As a plug-n-play device, no software is required for installation. With a weight of 1.0 lb, the B1 is light enough for daily travel, and includes microfiber bag for transporting.

AKM AK4396A Digital to Analog Converter
The B1 Bluetooth Receiver utilizes the AKM AK4396A DAC for low noise and high-fidelity. The B1 functions as an upsampling 24-bit Bluetooth DAC and will pad all bit depths internally to 24-bits, thus achieving a higher signal-to-noise ratio. Due to the AK4396A's high signal-to-noise specs, 24-bit digital signal upsampling, and the added benefit of triple redundancy power source conversion and filtering, the B1 showcases low noise and low distortion characteristics with a noticeable improvement over typical Bluetooth devices.
High-Quality Bluetooth Audio
The B1 features aptX coding, which produces high-quality sound quality when used with compatible Bluetooth devices. The B1 is backwards-compatible with all previous Bluetooth implementations, so you can wirelessly stream music from any Bluetooth-enabled device.
Optical Output
The B1 also functions as a wireless audio bridge from your device to your favorite DAC or preamp. Use the internal DAC with RCA analog outputs or connect the optical output into another DAC.

    Audioengine B1 reviews

B1 Bluetooth Music Receiver is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked great - and then stopped working. Runarounds Product works great when new. Loved it. Great range, good audio quality. After 8 months of use - one fine day it developed a problem. The audio volume would be wavy - frequency responses would be muted on lows. And over all sound quality went from 9.5/10 to a 1/10 - barely useable. B&H Video did not offer a refund. They redirected me to AudioEngine. Who don't offer refunds. You need to pay to ship it to them. And they will not offer you a refund - did I mention that? Customer Service at Audio Engine is a 4/10. No way to call them. The phones are discontinued. 'Don't call us - we will call you'. To quote our president 'SAD'

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with it! I was looking for a Bluetooth device to play music from my Ipod and Ipad to my older Denon receiver. After looking at the reviews, I picked this one even though it was pricey than others I have looked at. When it arrived, it was well packaged, came with a usb power supply , usb cable, gold plated audio cables and a cloth bag to store the unit. Even though it has a optical digital output, No optical cable was included. I had this for about 3 months now and I can say that I'm really impressed with it and wouldn't hesitate to buy any of their products. I would recommend this to anybody looking for a high quality Bluetooth receiver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfect straight out of the box The B1 works great, good range, excellent sound. You don't lose any quality while pushing a song through it. I swear I hear things I've never heard in some of my favorite songs. Sounds wicked with my paradigms. Love it so far

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bluetooth audio done right I've had a number of Bluetooth receivers over the years. They have all suffered from limited range, frequent dropouts and pretty mediocre audio. The B1, has eliminated these problems. Range is superb for a Bluetooth device and the audio response is superior to anything else out there. An added bonus: most Bluetooth receivers lack the output to drive my SET and push-pull tube amps to there fullest. That is not an issue here, plenty of clean, noise-free output! Plus, this box is built to last, no cheap plastic enclosure here. A welcome addition to my audio lineup!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT RECEPTION DISTANCE AND AUDIO QUALITY I USE THIS WITH MY IPAD AIR 2. I WAS ABOUT 70 FEET FROM RECEIVER AND THE AUDIO WAS STILL BEING RECEIVED. THE QUALITY SOUNDED AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL, I DIDNT EXPERIENCE A SENSE THAT THE AUDIO WAS COMPRESSED TOO MUCH. I WAS CONCERNED THAT THE RECEIVER WOULD NOT RECEIVE AS ADVERTISED. BUT IT WORKED. THE PRODUCT IS PRICEY BUT IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED. IT SAYS 100FT RANGE, I HAVE NOT TRIED TO GO 100FT BUT IT WORKS AT 70'. ITS A SMALL FOOTPRINT AND THE FINISH IS VERY NICE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product. Sound quality is very good. I use this product at home every day. I listen to music from my iPhone (music library and streaming audio) on my home stereo via the B1. A few times the volume on my iPhone could not control the audio on the unit and the B1 required a restart (unplug/replug). Overall highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great investment for any professional or amatuer dj. Initially I couldn't get the B1 to work properly but with the help of B&H, Autoengine and Bose tech support we found the problem was a wrong connection by me. I was connecting it to the wrong plug on my Bose tone match. Now that that problem was corrected it sounds awesome. I can pair up with the B1 from anywhere inside and outside my home with just about any Bluetooth music playing device. The quality of the sound is great. I've been using it almost continuously since I received it. Definitely worth the money. Thank you B&H, Autoengine & Bose for your help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Performance Because it is advertised to support high-resolution audio, I installed an Audioengine B1 Premium Bluetooth Music receiver in my stereo system--even though skeptical of the product's advertised ability to deliver high-resolution audio--particularly with Bluetooth wireless connectivity--which most obsessed audiophiles believe inherently degrades the listening experience. Although the Audioengine B1 supports audio delivered by any Bluetooth-supported source, I am using it primarily to receive music streamed from the Internet with an Amazon Echo device as the wireless source. Much to my surprise, the Audioengine B1 performed completely as advertised with the audio sounding transparent to the source--and quite near CD-player quality!!
