Core SWX PTC-BMCC Reviews

Not as Pictured, D-Tap Plug coming apart slightly

I was looking for a coiled cable to use with a belt pack V Mount battery for a BMCC Camera. 1st - Straight out of the Box the D-Tap Plug Plastic Cover is already separating a bit - not a good sign. 2nd - It is not as pictured. I'm paying the price premium for the coils! The photo shows a completely coiled cable except for the plugs. The cable I received has 18 1/4 of straight cable and 5 3/4 of coiled part. The cable is very stiff and cheap and the individual coils are small and don't spring out like a normal coiled cable. When you try to stretch this cable out there is way too much tension because of the stiff cheap coils. The only effective way to extend this cable would be to simply pull out the coils with force thus rendering into a straight cable.

Extremely poor build quality, constantly shorts out

The cable I received is not the same that we see in the picture. There is some sort of plastic adapter right before the 90 degree elbow, apparently to allow different types of fittings to attach to the same DTAP cable. The coiled portion of the cord itself feels nice and sturdy, but somewhere along the line there is a short, so the cable only delivers power if wiggled around and held in a specific position (often then still losing the connection). It's a nightmare to deal with this cable, since I constantly have to wiggle it and move it to get it to deliver power again, and it's a huge distraction. I'm constantly worried about power when using this $$ piece of junk.

question

I'm looking for a straight or coiled powertap cable to supply DC power from IDX P-V257 to ATOMOS SHOGUN. Is this cable usable for that purpose?
Asked by: Anonymous
This cable is used to power a Blackmagic Cinema Camera via a power source with a Powertap output. This will not work for powering an Atomos Shogun. As the Atomos Shogun already comes with a D-Tap adapter, suggest getting a coiled cable with a D-Tap connection on both ends such as B&H # LAABPWR901.

question

It looks compatible from the photo, but can this cable connect from a Series7 EX-L96 battery to power a Pro-X GP-H56S top light? It's just Powertap to DC -- right?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, this cable will work with any d-tap Core battery.

question

Can it be used for Blackmagic Production Camera 4K?
Asked by: Jebin R.
I think so. We use it on a 2.5K and it works fine. The only difference between 4K and 2.5K is the sensor. The body itself is the same.
