The 50mm T1.5 AS UMC Cine DS Lens for Sony E Mount from Rokinon is a fast manual focus prime lens. It is compatible with APS-C and full frame E-mount cameras, having a full frame focal length equivalent of 75mm with APS-C sensors. It provides a very fast maximum aperture of T1.5 for effective low light capture and shallow depth of field control and an 8 blade iris for attractive bokeh. Optimized for cinema and video applications, the focus and aperture control rings are outfitted with industry standard gearing, which provides an interface for working with a traditional follow focus. The aperture control ring has also been de-clicked, which enables smooth iris pulls. In addition, bright aperture and distance markings are printed on the lens barrel facing laterally to facilitate easier control by a focus puller.

The 50mm has a minimum focus distance of 1.5'. Internal focusing minimizes the effects of lens breathing, which insures a more consistent angle-of-view when adjusting focus. The lens is composed of 9 elements in 6 groups, including one aspherical element and one hybrid aspherical element to reduce aberrations. In addition, a lens multi-coating helps to improve light transmission reducing flare and ghosting. The filter thread diameter is 77mm.

With this 50mm lens, Rokinon introduces the DS series of cinema lenses, unifying their cine lenses in more than just name. Each of the DS branded lenses will offer the same alignment of their geared focus and aperture rings so that follow focus and other rig accessories won't need re-adjustment when swapping lenses. Also, each DS lens is tested to be color matched with the other lenses in the series and provide the same color and contrast when shooting video. Lastly, the lenses are marked with focusing scales on each side of the barrel for easier adjustment from either side of the camera.

Compatible with both full frame and APS-C format E-mount cameras, this 50mm manual focus prime lens provides the 35mm focal length equivalent of 75mm on Sony E mount APS-C format cameras.
Functional as still photo lens but optimized for cinema and video shooting with geared aperture and focus rings, de-clicked aperture for smooth exposure transitions and laterally printed aperture and distance markings. The 50mm T1.5 is part of the DS series of cine lenses, sharing characteristics and features that unify the series and make it easier for users to swap out lenses when shooting video. Each DS lens provides aligned focus and aperture rings so that readjustment of the follow focus is not necessary when switching lenses. Also each lens has been tested to match color and contrast for a consistent look and less potential post-processing.     Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value, well built This lens is exactly what I expected it to be, which, in this day and age, is great. It's a well made cine-style lens which provides excellent value at the price. It's super fast, and as a result gives very nice shallow depth of field. Without any electronics in there (everything is manual), it's nice and light while still feeling very solid. There are certainly sharper, prettier lenses, but if you're looking for a cine lens lineup that will give professional looking results at a fraction of the cost, these lenses really are exceptional. Just ordered a 24 to add to my lineup. Shooting on the A7s and FS700, I get a range of focal lengths with these lenses.

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good glass for less money A good cinema styled lens with plenty of bang for the buck. Fast, reasonably sharp and built more solid than you would expect from the prize. The lens delivers good picture and decent mechanics even if the short throw of the focus ring is not ideal for cinema style shooting. I shoot movies on a professional level and will use this lens for crash camera applications, test filming and stills. I am pleased with the picture quality the lens delivers and I would recommend this to anyone who shoots movies/stills on a high amateur level or for professionals that need a cheap solution for a rigged/crash camera. I also bought the 24, 35 and 85mm of the same make and they made the same impression.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Lens with nice range and Bokeh.. A Great Lens with nice range and Bokeh, that was missing in my Rokinon Cine Lineup. Last year, I made a commitment to getting a complete set of Cine Lenses, and while the Zeiss Lenses would be great, they are unaffordable and frankly can be rented for those specific clients and jobs. So I really needed a 50MM to go with my 85,35, 24, & 14mm. Why it was missing: The fact that this lens has such a great close focus range (18) you can use it on a Full Frame camera for a Close-Up, without distortion and without changing out lenses! And while a camera that's placed that close to a subject may not be ideal, this 50MM makes it possible, and 50's have pretty much been a cine standard. For me, I judge my Cine lenses on whether they can give me a close-up or not. Because on lower budget work, you often need to emphasize on Character emotion, telling stories through their eyes and POV as you blow out a distracting background, because you may have limited production design on a set... If you even have a set. So I used my Roki 85MM the most for this, but then I couldn't really get a medium shot, in tighter spaces, so now this Rokinon 50MM T1.5, does this beautifully! You can get a great tight close-up with some nice round Bokeh in the background, as well as get your medium and long shots. Put a couple of well placed candles in the BG, and Bam! Beautiful Baby! It looks like they apparently did some fine tuning on the glass to get more consistent images in color and contrast, across the board of their new lenses... This, thankfully I can't notice, as I started buying my set before the additions. So far, colors look pretty consistent, and the images are very sharp. They also added the dual distance markings, which come in handy. It's an all metal housing as well. I also love the fact that you can switch out ALL of these lenses without readjusting the follow focus! So a longtime, welcomed new addition!

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bang for your buck Purchased my first set of Rokinon lenses two years ago and I have added seven more since. The 50mm T1.5 has not disappointed me. It has a nice solid construction with few plastic parts. I use it on a Sony NEX-FS700. The de-clicked aperture ring offers nice smooth movement. The biggest plus for me has been the long throw on the focus ring, something you don't get when you adapt DSLR lenses to video cameras. Already geared for a follow-focus, it makes for nice smooth focus control. I highly recommend to the film maker that can't afford high-end primes.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Lens for DSLR Shooters I use the Rokinon Cine DS 50mm for my Sony FS7 Super 35 and I really, really like it. BUT I swapped it for the same lens in a Nikon Mount so I could use the Metabones Speedbooster with it. The emount alone was as big as the Nikon Mount with the Speedbooster attached. Since it was not an improvement in ergonomics and size (the smaller the better for me as a one man freelancer)I liked the wider frame of reference that I saw in the Nikon adapted 50mm. So all that I've told you so far is neither good nor bad. It's just info I discovered and wanted to pass along in case it could help anyone. The lens is not metal but it still feels very solid and the focusing/aperture changing is smooth, but stiff. The length of the focus throw is what I would call ideal for one man shooters. That's because it is much longer than the throw of the still lenses I'd been using, but shorter than the Veydra cine lenses I compared them to. If the Rokinon had any more throw distance it would take me two attemps to pull my own focus (by hand not a rig)) from near to far and vice versa. The T 1.5 speed is TERRIFIC! And with a speedbooster added to it I am like a special ops cameraman filming in the dark! The lens looks wonderful in the viewfinder, but I have yet to do a really hard test comparison on a monitor. I'll report back when I do. For now I've just compared it to Veydra's (also terrific and I've reviewed them in there own product space at the BH site) and Nikon still lenses by mounting and unmounting them and filming a few minutes worth of footage. The Rokinon Cine DS (and Veydra's) is so much easier to nail my focus changes than the Nikon primes. I think it also performed without glare in situations where the Nikons did not hold up so well. While the quality of the product is 5-stars there is one place the Rolinon leaves me wishing for more and that is focus rotation direction. The Rokinon focuses in the same rotational direction from near to far as other still lenses. However the Veydra Cine lenses focus the opposite and they mimic the way I'm used to filming with TV cameras. It's not anything that would bother a DSLR person (it would likely be seen as an advantage) but I found the Veydra line to be so much more natural for me. Old habits die hard. Finally though, I think the Rolinon Cine DS line is a remarkable deal and since it allows me to use Nikons I might ultimately go with Rokinons so I can interchange them with my Sony F3/Nikon adapter setup and get even more bang for the buck regarding light sensitivity. I used nothing but my naked eyes with comparisons between the Rokin's with and without the adapter, but I saw nothing that would deter me from using the adapter. Sharp lenses either way.

I use this with a A7Sii and it almost constantly stays on my camera. Interviews with this are a must with the 1.5 aperture. Perfect for entry level professional videographers.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value Phenomenal bang for the buck. Visually, it's extremely close to our CP.2s. Only downsides are the short focus throw and the insane amount of breathing. For the price, I don't think you can do better.
