With the ability to capture 4K at 30 fps (4K30), the GoPro HERO4 Black allows you to move beyond HD when recording POV style footage either wearing the camera or mounting it in a number of creative ways. On top of 4K, the camera shoots 2.7K at up to 60 fps, Full HD (1080p) at up to 120 fps for high definition slow motion, WVGA (848 x 480) for upload-friendly files, and more. Plus, with the SuperView mode enabled, the camera maximizes its sensor area to give you an ultra-wide angle of view to enhance the POV feel of footage while encompassing as much of the scene as possible. The HERO4 Black's capabilities don't end with video, though. It can take 12-megapixel stills as individual shots, in intervals for stitching together time-lapse movies, or in momentary bursts of up to 30 photos per second - the latter helping ensure you catch fast action at just the right moment.

For remote monitoring and operation, the camera is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, letting you pair it with a mobile device or the separately available Smart Remote. There is also a USB port for file transfer, charging, or to connect the optional 3.5mm mic adapter. Further promoting its take-anywhere claim, the 131' Standard Housing is included, and not only keeps the camera dry, it adds an extra layer of protection. In addition to the bundled flat and adhesive mounts, the camera is also adaptable to a wide range of separately available mounts from GoPro and third-parties - with options to accommodate just about any scenario imaginable.

2x Faster Processor than HERO3+ Black Edition
The redesigned processor is twice as fast as the one in the HERO3+ Black Edition. This enables 4K30 recording as well as 2.7K recording at up to 60 fps, 1080p slow-motion recording at 120 fps, and 720p slow-motion at 240 fps

Note: Please ensure your camera is updated to the latest firmware to take advantage of all of these frame rates
Built-In Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Allows you to pair the HERO4 with a mobile device running the GoPro App, or use the separately available Smart Remote. With the app you can preview, playback, and share your favorite shots via email, text, Facebook, Instagram, and more. The advantage of using Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi - where supported - is reduced power consumption

HERO4 Black is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 272.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from $ paperweight I am a professional photographer. I recently purchased the GoPro Hero 4 Black primarly to take 4k timelapse videos during cityscape shoots. The camera seemed to perform well the first few days. Then I started noticing occasional jittery, pixelated green frames in my videos and time lapse stills. Today (after only 7 days of gentle use) the camera freezes up and does not function. I turned the power off and rebooted. The camera works for a few minutes and freezes up again. I have researched this problem online and have learned that it is surprisingly common. I will be returning it asap. GoPro really need to improve their quality control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HERO4 Black a great camera I think the best setup to easily operate the camera is the camera paired to a tablet/phone. This allows for both camera settings control and wi-fi live video feed and video review. We're using this camera for sports video acquisition + video review (playback), support in multicam video projects and taking quick photos for locations scouting. There are some significant settings tweaks that are best done via wi-fi. I suggest to learn about these settings, especially ProTune, which is higher resolution than normal. Very happy with this camera although having to up-res footage to Apple ProRes is problematic but necessary with my other camera co-decs too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Peformance for Timelapse I am a professional photographer using this for a timelapse project. Have had numerous issues. Corrupted files even though using GoPro supported cards, unexpected camera shut downs due to overheating even though it was running on A/C power, and pairing with GoPro app became glitchy after working fine for weeks. In short, do not count on this camera for anything that requires reliable, predictable results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Quality with One Small Issue The protune images are phenomenal and easy to color grade. I have only used the Hero 4 a couple of times as my camera had an issue with the audio. There was a helicopter sound on the audio channel whenever I use the wifi. After some research, I discovered that there was an issue with the hardware on some of the cameras that caused this problematic audio. I contacted GoPro and they were immediately responsive in sending me an RMA and arranging to replace the defective camera. I own the Hero 3+ and the a previous Hero and they have all worked well and are still completely functional. I use these cameras primarily for mountain bike footage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so far so good...very easy to operate I'm producing a 3 month time lapse video project of our new plant from empty to up and running with full production. The staff at B&H was very helpful in explaining camera options and choices...and we chose the GO PRO Hero4 black. The only coaching tip I'd add to future buyers is the GO PRO app for iPhone is FREE...no need to buy the other apps at the app store. And with the app it makes GO PRO cameras so much easier to operate and see what the camera see too. I'm not a big fan of the little LED screen on the camera but the app enlarges everything and has a 15 minute learning curve...very easy to understand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too wide I bought this camera mainly for outdoor activities where my heavy & expensive gear doesn't seem practical. It is easy to use, light and still delivers good quality pictures or higher-than-average video quality. But is has its limitations, too. Battery life is short if you use WiFi, even with battery backpack installed, and focal length is excessively wide if you intend to use full resolution, giving your pictures a fish-eye like aspect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Camera, Poor Software The GoPro is probably fine for a normal consumer but their app demonstrates that they clearly don't understand the needs of the professional. The login requirement is an epic flaw and one that makes the camera a liability to the professional. Case in point, I was in the field and REALLY needed to quickly get my GoPro out and manage a scene through their app. I was unable to because it wouldn't let me without logging in first. Despite the fact that I didn't remember my password, I also didn't have Internet access. Thus I was unable to use my GoPro. As a professional, this only happens once on a piece of equipment and then you move on to other devices that are not going to fail you when you need them. I was really shocked that a company like GoPro would have such an epic flaw with their software. So my rating is 1 star since it is useless as a professional device.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DOA - Died after first use I've had over two dozen GoPros and I bought 2x Hero4 Blacks. They both died after the first time using them. Apparently this is actually quite common with the latest version. GoPro said they just need the firmware update but nothing will power them up. They're dead. $ down the drain and I'm professional camera up and use these as hidden cam/crash cams - never again. Sorry GoPro you just lost me as a customer forever.
