Samyang 12mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

The silver 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount from Samyang is a wide-angle prime lens designed specifically for use with Micro Four Thirds format image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm and a broad 83° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for architectural, interior, and landscape images. Its fast f/2.0 maximum aperture is beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

One aspherical element, one hybrid aspherical element and three elements made of low dispersion glass have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion for sharper, high contrast imaging throughout the frame. Additionally, a Nano Coating System (NCS) has been applied to the lens elements in order to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting. A six-blade aperture closes to create a near full circle and the lenses minimum focus distance is 7.9".  The lens barrel is built with aluminum alloy with a 67mm diameter filter thread and includes a removable petal-style lens hood.

Wide-angle prime lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm for comprehensive wide-angle applications including architectural and landscape photography.
Fast f/2.0 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions.
Three extra-low dispersion elements, one hybrid aspherical element and an aspherical element reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions in order to produce sharper images from the center to the corner of the image frame.
Nano Coating System improves light transmission and suppresses lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich, color-neutral images.
Durable aluminum alloy build and included removable petal-style lens hood.

    Samyang 12mm f/2.0 reviews

12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount (Silver) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Right Great manual lens for my M4/3 camera. There are two puzzles. (a) Why is this lens called Rokinon, Bower etc? They all lool the same and I think they are all made by the same company, Samyang. So I bought the original. (b) Why does the focus ring go pass the 'infinity' mark? This is not explained in the manual. Normally for ease of use on such a wide angle lens I simple turn the focus to infinity without looking and shoot. But I can't on this lens. And the manual doesn't explain why. This latter issue is very annoying. This is otherwise a great lens for the money with a solid build. I would return it but it was a gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens, As Advertised! My only gripe is they always want us to review quickly before we've had a lot of time with a product. Shooting for over fifty years, I've used a lot of glass both good and bad. I'm not a pixel peeper, but this is good glass. I love having an actual aperture ring on a lens again. Manual focus has not been a problem even for my old, but experienced eyes. My E-PL6 does not have focus peaking, but I do have the good VH-4 eye level viewfinder. Focusing on the back screen is more difficult. With a 24mm equivalent lens focus is only critical when you're at wide apertures and/or pretty close to the subject. Actually after years of autofocus lenses, good manual focus feels great, and actually may be an advantage on this focal length. I so pleased I plan to purchase another short telephoto Samyang or Rokinon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Lens I love the size and build of this lens. I use it on the BM Pocket and Micro so it fiunctions as a 35mm lens which is ideal for flying on a stabilizer and drone. It's feels solid with a great damped focus ring. IQ is also solid. It's sharp in the center even at F/2 and using it for film making, the center is where it matters. Also surrisingly nice bokeh for a wide angle. ll in all, a great little lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent I love how wide this lens is but it is not too sharp, I was hoping for the price it would be a bit more sharp than it turned out to be. If I could go back I probably would have went with another lens but it still does well in low light and it is not a bad lens overall.
