Sony MDRZ7 overview

  • 1Description

Providing you with a broad frequency response to accommodate playback of high resolution audio, the MDR-Z7 High-Resolution Audio Headphones from Sony features 70mm drivers and aluminum-coated liquid crystal polymer diaphragms designed for precise sound reproduction. The headphones have an all-metal design that helps to suppress unwanted vibrations, while the included balanced cable allows for reduced crosstalk and improved channel separation. Soft leather earpads provide a comfortable fit during long listening sessions. A balanced cable, a regular headphone cable, and a unimatch adapter are all included.

High-Resolution Audio
Take your digital music collection to another level with High-Resolution Audio. By converting analog music to digital at a higher rate than CD (24-bit/192kHz, rather than 16-bit/44.1kHz), High-Resolution Audio allows you to get closer to the original studio recording
70mm Drivers
70mm HD driver units power through your music, keeping every note precise, no matter how high you turn up the volume. Because of their massive size, these drivers create a plane wave effect in the earcups that prevents reflection delays and minimizes sound loss. So you can hear all the emotion and energy of the original recording with punchy bass and crystal clear high notes
Wide Frequency Response
The wideband frequency range - spanning 3Hz to 100kHz - is designed for today's broad variety of music styles. The 3Hz low end of the frequency range offers more than enough latitude for even the deepest sub-bass notes. At the 100kHz high end, you'll be able to enjoy vocal melodies, subtle audio harmonics and tonality
High Sensitivity
With a sensitivity of 105dB/mW, these headphones are highly efficient in converting electricity into acoustic signals. That means you'll hear a clearer sound across the entire audio spectrum when listening to music through the same source and at the same volume level
Aluminum-Coated LCP Diaphragm
An aluminum-coated, liquid crystal polymer diaphragm gives a consistent sound across the entire frequency range. Sound energy lost during transmission to the headphone housing is more uniform, to ensure a true and authentic performance. You'll also enjoy a flatter frequency response, even when listening to the ultra high frequencies of High-Resolution Audio
Enfolding Closed-Back Design
The closed-back, enfolding design wraps around the ear, helping to seal in music and keep distractions out. Acoustics are reflected back towards your ears, so you'll hear even the subtlest of sounds. You'll also feel every beat, as the closed-back design helps to maximize the bass signatures in your music
Balanced Audio
With a balanced 4-wire connection and silver-copper dual cord, audio channel separation is improved for better sound. Unlike conventional headphones which share a ground wire, the cord includes left, right and independent ground wires for both channels, so you'll hear less distortion and cross-talk
All-Metal Design
Constructed with high-density metal, these headphones suppress unwanted vibration and keep sound stable. A metal hanger sleeve, shaft and hinge ensures durability. For wearing comfort, the light and flexible metal headband can be easily adjusted to fit perfectly around the head
Leather Earpads
Soft leather earpads, designed to shape around your ears, give a secure and comfortable fit

    Sony MDRZ7 reviews

    MDR-Z7 High-Resolution Audio Headphones is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest! SONY MDR-Z7 Headphones The SONY MDR-Z7 is a very good headphone. They are beautifully made. These are the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. The leather ear cushions really help. I also purchased the SONY PHA-3 headphone amplifier, which is a good combination. The frequency response is excellent as is the overall sound quality. Again, it is the comfort feature that sets the SONY MDR-Z7 headphones apart from all the inexpensive types. I really like them a lot. You will too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest! SONY MDR-Z7 High-Resolution Audio Headphones The SONY MDR-Z7s are the very best headphones in the world, in my opinion. The MDR-Z7s can reproduce percussion sounds that other headphones miss completely! The overall sound is very well balanced. But most of all, these headphones are a real pleasure to wear; they are so comfortable! The MDR-Z7s are carefully manufactured in Japan. Believe me, I own, and have owned several other headphones by other manufacturers, The SONY MDR-Z7s are truly outstanding!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent quality but a bit pricey for what you get PROS: 1. Made in Japan! Very high quality construction throughout. 2. Extremely comfortable to wear. Padded cups are super soft. 3. Excellent frequency response, very pleasant soundstage. Somewhat neutral rendering, these are not "bass monsters". If you like phat bass, these aren't for you. 4. Comes with a beautiful presentation / storage box. 5. Option of unbalanced or balanced connection. 6. Excellent isolation of music, as closed-back cans go. The ear pads really isolate the music and reduce external sounds / noise. CONS: 1. The dual wires exiting the cans are a bit cumbersome, I prefer headphones that have a single wired connection. 2. These are pretty big cans. I don't wear them outside my house cuz I think they look a little too dorky. 3. As mentioned the overall sound quality is excellent -- but compared to other headphones (I've tried Audio Technica, B&W, Oppo, etc.) there is no "wow" factor with the Sony product. IMHO there are cans that sound just as good -- for less money.
