Alesis SR-16 overview

  • 1Description

The Alesis SR-16 is a professional, stereo drum machine which features dynamic articulation and is well suited for songwriters, live performers, and remix engineers. The original SR-16 was 16-bit but was updated to 24-bit for higher quality sound with a lower noise floor. The SR-16 offers a wide selection of 233 realistic, natural sounds both dry and with professional quality reverbs. The dynamic articulation feature enables a drum sound to change its tonal content as it's played harder for truly realistic performances.

The 50 on-board patterns were played by top studio drummers with built-in rhythmic variations (A, B, and two Fill sections.) Additionally, you can create and save your own customized patterns and songs. The Alesis SR-16 also provides complete MIDI implementation, 2 footswitch inputs, flexible programming and editing features, velocity-sensitive pads, and includes a power supply.

    Alesis SR-16 reviews

SR-16 24-Bit Stereo Drum Machine with Dynamic Articulation is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Tool for Aspiring Song-Writers I bought this product for my boyfriend for Christmas to assist him in his song writing. He had heard about it through the music industry and thought it would be the perfect solution to help with holding rhythms and tempos while writing. The machine was simple to set up and was immediately user-friendly. It comes with many beat patterns and rhythms preprogrammed and you can easily create your own. He set to work with it right away and is pleased with the product. I did also buy the additional midi cables recommended and we are grateful. They allow you to connect to the computer and/or keyboard easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for my home studio! This is a great little machine I use to record with in my home studio. The A and B patterns are helpful from switching from verse to chorus. Programing takes some effort for the perfection of a song, otherwise the presets sound great. Two variations of drum fills are good and the drum tones sound great, especially once you learn how to tweak them a little bit. The touch sensitive pads are excellent for building up to that climax in a song. Don't forget to order a set of foot pedals, you will need them. I would suggest this machine to anyone who needs a low cost, great sounding, easy to use drum machine.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Features Don't Matter When the Sounds Aren't Good Solidly built unit with good connectivity and excellent pads. However, the poor quality of the sounds made it unusable. (My unit also arrived scratched.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from volume control easily damaged Bought the SR-16 a few years ago. IMPORTANT: treat the unit gently. Don't' drop it or thump the vol. control. it will damage it leaving it pretty much un-usable. Keep it covered from dust. Dust will damage the vol control. As far a programming for a tune the owners manual was worthless for me. Never learned how to program. Needs a dv video detailed instruction for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended unless you need waltz 3/4 patterns. I use this product live, triggering with 2 foot pedals whil I play my Nord keyboard. Numerous people have commented on the quality of the drums and how realistic they sound. This is my second Sr 16. I just bought it for a backup since my other unit is 10 years old, but still functioning flawlessly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from the classic beatbox This was great 15 years ago and amazingly it still is a valid drum machine. Pretty good sounds and easy to navigate.
