Designed for storing and working with intensive multimedia files including video, photos, audio, and music libraries, the 4TB G-DRIVE USB G1 USB 3.0 Hard Drive from G-Technology lets you store up to 4TB of your data and transfer it to or from your computer using USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1) technology. Housed in an aluminum enclosure, the G-DRIVE USB G1 features data transfer rates of up to 165 MB/s and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, both of which allow for quick file access and fast data transfer speeds. The G-DRIVE USB G1 natively supports USB 3.0 and includes a USB 3.0 cable, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

While the G-DRIVE USB G1 is compatible with both Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, and Mac OS 10.9 and later,, it comes formatted HFS+ for Mac OS and supports Apple's Time Machine software, allowing your Mac to be backed up to this drive. To use this drive with Windows, it will need to be reformatted. Also included with the G-DRIVE USB G1 is a power adapter.

    4TB G-DRIVE USB G1 USB 3.0 Hard Drive is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 174.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'd buy again Using the drive as my master backup. I've had success with G-Technology so I stick with this brand. Can only compare it to a less than stellar WD drive I had about 5-6yrs ago. It's quick enough to handle my large design files, slim & sleek, comes ready to go with Mac OS...Does what I need and does it well! Only things I would prefer G-Technology to update would be the power button. It's not a switch like some others I have, so i'm wary how it will wear in the future. One other thing that i'm not 100% keen on with G-Technology are their ports. I wish the usb (on this drive) & firewire (not on this drive) ports were inset a bit more. (not sure ab thunder)... I have a travel drive that easily gets ejected if moved. Haven't had any issues with this drive or other non-travel drives, but I feel like if they were inset a bit more, I wouldn't even be writing this right now. Anyway, it's a great drive! I'm confident i'll have it around for quite a few years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse I had purchased this drive for use in recording podcast episodes, and couldn't be happier... The 7200 RPM drive speed is perfect for capturing the high-quality audio we want, and it spools in no time. Have edited from the drive, and found no lag with the iMac we're using. The only issue we've found is that after an hour or so of recording, the cooling noise can find its way onto the track. A little medium-density foam (and isolating it from the desktop chalk that to user error) took care of that. Love this drive, and will definitely add another as space is needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decide between this product and the G-Technology G-DRIVE 4 T Love it! Great price! Most bang for your buck for a reliable product! I had to decide between this product and the G-Technology G-DRIVE 4 TB 7200 RPM Professional-Strength External Hard Drive, Silver (0G02537) which is priced at much higher for the same amount of space. Differences: The additional features of the 0G02537 is that it has a 2 leg base and an integrated heat-sink and it keeps the drive a bit more ventilated and a firewire port (who still uses firewire these days right? :/). I could do the same with this G-Technology 4TB G-DRIVE G1 Hard Drive but placing 2 Altoids Mint boxes. That saves me about $90.00. To me I didn't need the additional fancy heat sink. The case itself IS the heat sink! You can buy a heat sink for less than $5.00 and put it on the G1 if you like lol Similarities: Both are 7200RPM Both are 4TB Both have a solid all-aluminum case Both are powered through a power cord rather than a USB cable Both have an on/off button at the back I am a photographer and I have quite a number of files. I use this as a backup. I can transfer close to 800GB of photos within a couple hours on my rmbp. Over all, the G1 drive performs better than I anticipated. Works really fast with my MacBook Pro via usb 3.0. I am very satisfied with this product. This is probably the most bang for your buck for a reliable product. Thanks, -Danny

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value This is a good choice for a high capacity hard drive if you need a reliable, reasonably fast, high capacity drive and don't need Firewire, SATA or Thunderbolt connectivity. I am getting read/write speeds of around 120 MB/second with its USB 3.0 interface, which is less than the theoretical max but nonetheless respectable and which may vary depending on one's computer and configuration. Its per terabyte cost is one of the lowest for any drive with a three year warranty and G-Technology has a good reputation and good customer service. I own other G-Technology drives and have had good experiences. There is no fan so it runs very quietly. It was a good option for photography. My only complaint is its transformer block; it always takes up too much space on a power strip.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from goes to sleep every 5 minutes despite windows settings I have two of these. Despite all windows settings, these drives continue to go to sleep every 5 minutes or so, and then require a lengthy wait of around 15 seconds to wake up every time I access them. For some this might not matter, but I use these drives for video editing and it's quite frustrating when, every time I encounter a clip on my timeline that is sourced from one of these drives and I have to stop my flow and wait for it to spin up. I solved this problem by installing a 3rd party app that I must launch after each boot to write a file to these hard drives every 4 minutes to keep them from going to sleep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I only buy G-Drives for external storage I have been doing tv, radio and video production professionally for over 40 (sic) years and have made an acceptable living the last 30 on various Apple/Mac products. I have learned the hard way, no pun intended, to use only G-Drives for my hard drive backups. This is external hard drive #21; various other brands no longer function. All of my G-Drives do. If your data is worth preserving then it's probably worth paying a little more for a G-Drive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A solid and efficient USB drive from G-Tech G-tech is a fine company and they have never let me down (yet I know the brand has its detractors.) This 4tb drive is fast, reliable and quiet; that's all I really ask for in a media drive. I bought this one to increase capcity for my ever-burgeoning iTunes library. The USB 3.0 connectivity is plenty fast for music, movies and apps. And it runs quietly (unlike the 8tb RAID array it's parked next to on my desk.) Only peeve: I held back a star on my rating due to the illuminated G logo on the housing: blinks brightly during *any* access. The light's size seems an annoying, needless nod to style. I'm planning to trim a blue theatrical gel to size and adhere it over the logo to make it less ostentatious. It's the sort of thing that might not bother most folks, but sure it bugs me. Beyond that it's great drive for the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT External Drive I use the 4TB G-Drive USB 3.0 hard drive as one of multiple drives for backup and as a working drive for some larger movie/effects/audio projects. I've been using G-Technology drives for many years and have not had a single failure. While I do wish there was a way to daisy-chain these drives together, the relatively large capacity of the drive doesn't make it that critical. I've transfered data back and forth from a FW800/USB 2 drive to the USB 3 drive. The USB 3 connection definitely speeds the read/write process more so than either a FW800 or USB 2 connection. G-Tech drives are the ONLY drives that I trust and use. I currently have 7 working right now and anticipate the purchase of another in the very near future.
