By shading the front of the optic and blocking excess light, it prevents flare. Additionally, because it protrudes past the end of the lens, the hood offers some added protection.

Make sure you get the right hood for the Canon lens you are using. They don't swap well, especially with the new school ones that have the button 'click' release. This hood goes great on the 24-105mm!
This is the perfect lens hood for my Canon 24-105mm lens. Fits well and works great. One thing, for my prior lenses I had a hood that just popped into place after twisting it, and to get it off I just had to twist it the other way. *This lens hood* has a button on the side that you have to push in to twist it back off. Just be aware so you don't try to force it.
I got two, thanks, I kept dont need to send it back. never know if break or lost or itch, I use this hood as back up.
I dropped my lens that had this hood and the hood broke, but the lens did not, so if for nothing else it is great protection. However with the hood on it helps eliminate a lot of the sun flares when they are not wanted.
This is a good product with a good price and fast delivery. I used to have one, because I fell with my camera, this product protected my camera without a serous damage, of course this product was broken. This is the replacement.
If you own EF 24-105mm and do any outdoor photography, this lens hood is a much-needed addition to your kit to reduce sun flare.

Very nice lens Hood. Hood also has bayonet feature, which is very convenient. Both fit comfortably in a polyurethane carrying case. Was not available when I went to B&H; Sales Assistant was very helpful with my in-store purchases, and ordered for me. Received it the following week. Another fine shopping experience at B&H, amongst many!
