    Sigma 150-600mm f/5.0-6.3 reviews

150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon F is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 123.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fun with a Long Reach I have only had this lens for a few weeks, but have enjoyed every opportunity to take it out (maybe 500 photos so far). I do use a tripod most of the time, but have gotten good results handheld. Focus is very fast and I find the bokeh to be pleasing. It is my first experience with Sigma (I like the feel and quality). This lens is big and heavy - exploring ways to carry it while attached to my camera - not suitable for carrying with just a neck strap. It has pushed me to experiment with camera set-up (D7200). First photos were not so great. I now set the aperture and shutter speed and let the camera adjust the ISO - photos 100% better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens for the price. I've had this lens for 3 weeks. The more I learn about how to use it, the better the results and, therefore, the more I love this lens. Here's what I learned while photographing birds. #1. OS (image stabilization) is worth keeping on, even at 1/3200 ss. #2. I use back button autofocus and I found the MO auto focus setting (autofocus that allows manual override) is very handy for fine tuning focus on small birds in the marsh among multiple autofocus-fooling reeds. #3. Find birds in flight first at shorter focal length, then zoom in while panning.(takes some practice. The weight of this lens is quite manageable for an old guy to use handheld. The Sport version is too heavy without a monopod or tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding lens I've been using this lens on a Nikon D500 on a tripod with a wireless shutter release. Images have been invariably extremely sharp and with no visible aberrations anywhere within the field of exposure. I took some handsome pics of hummingbirds in flight and perched on a feeder, as well as close ups of some architectural features on some late 1800 buildings in our community earlier this morning. I couldn't be happier with the results to date. I'd strongly recommend this lens. Excellent quality and at a price far lower than a similar Nikon ones. This is my second Sigma zoom lens. An outstanding brand, based on my experiences to date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens Took it out for my first test drive a few days after purchase and I am really happy with this lens. I used it mounted on a gimbal head, Gitzo metal tripod and a Nikon D810. Most of my images were at 600mm, ISO 800 and f11. I shot wild horses and a few different birds at a local river. Very sharp images, good contrast and color. I'm not a working pro but do sell a few images a year so I couldn't see spending the extra for the sports version. If your on the fence about this lens and don't need the extra weather sealing of the sports version, this is the ticket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just for 600mm!! I bought this for its 600mm+TC1.4 reach for bird photography which has worked out well, especially with the ability to use the panning control and 3D option on my N610. To my surprise, it has turned out to be a great lens to photograph my grandkids - at the 150-250mm range as well - I stay out of their way and capture them without them realizing they are being photographed. In addition, the lens balances very well on a tripod or monopad with my camera body. Just be aware that with all that glass on a full frame body and even a light tripod you are carrying a lot of weight around. Great lens, worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super lens for the money! I've used the Nikon 200-400 f4 VR for many years; while this Sigma can't compete with build quality it does an outstanding job with sharpness and speed of focus with a D4s. It is far lighter for ease of carrying and will fit into a medium size pack. In my experience the Sigma is on par with the 200-400 and 1.4x tele (560mm) as far as sharpness at the long end (600mm) without having to fine tune. Granted I may have an exceptional copy but this lens is definitely worth looking at for the great value it provides. There are reviewers who have found the optics to be virtually as good as the sport model for a lot less money. Sigma has done a very impressive job with this lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sigma Bigma Researched this purchase for months. I relied on B&H 's reviews as well as reading through any other information about this lens that I could type into a search bar. I had purchased Sigms art lens recently and was very happy with quality of the lens and it's capabilities. The 150-600 contemporary zoom is big and comes in at around 4 and a half pounds and it is well worth carrying to get the shots you can get. My first big day to test the lens was at a spring training Baseball gain and the pictures I collected are amazing. Close ups from the right field bleachers and from behind home plate. Mounted on a Nikon D7200 with a monopod the images were sharp and I was able to stop action beautifully. Since then I have shot wildlife a including birds in flight with brilliant results. Could not be happier with this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sigma 150-600mm I ordered this lens because I was worried about the weight of the sport version, since I will be carrying this lens around on trails for most of the day. This is a well built and solid lens. Center sharpness is very good at all focal lengths, I usually shoot around F8. Distortion seems to be well controlled however it is easy to notice vignetting when shooting wide open against a solid background like a blue sky. The bokeh produced from highlights (like the sun reflecting off the water) is very distracting it creates a perfect circle with a very bright outer ring that you will want to edit out of all your pictures. If you have the Sigma USB dock you can change the auto focus speeds, OS sensitivity and set a custom auto focus limiter. it is possible to shoot hand held at 600mm with the OS under most conditions. This is an excellent lens for the price and I would not hesitate to buy it again.
