Panasonic 35-100mm f/4.0-5.6 overview

  • 1Description

Spanning a versatile range of focal lengths, the Lumix G Vario 35-100mm f/4-5.6 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. from Panasonic is a 70-200mm equivalent lens for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Despite its ranging reach, this lens is characterized by its compact and lightweight form factor that is suitable for everyday shooting. Its optical design employs one aspherical element and a pair of extra-low dispersion elements to suppress various aberrations, color fringing, and distortion for sharp, clear, and color-accurate imagery. A stepping AF motor and internal focus design are also employed for quick, quiet focusing performance that suits movie and photo applications, and MEGA O.I.S. helps to ensure sharp handheld photos by compensating for the effects of camera shake.

Portrait-length to telephoto zoom is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 70-200mm equivalent focal length range.
One aspherical element and two extra-low dispersion elements help control spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy.
Stepping AF motor and internal focus design provides smooth and quiet focusing performance that is well-suited to both photo and video use.
MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) minimizes the appearance of camera shake to realize sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

    Panasonic 35-100mm f/4.0-5.6 reviews

    Lumix G Vario 35-100mm f/4-5.6 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. Lens is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little lens! I first tried this lens on my old GF1 camera with very surprisingly good results. And yes the O.I.S. does work on the GF1. This is where it was going to live as a walk around setup. Then I tried it on my G7 doing videos. It performed magnificently as a video lens. The sharpness is incredible! It has extremely fast auto-focus as a stills lens and the auto-focus performs better than average as a 4K video lens. It is small, light and very nice looking on all of my cameras. This is used primarily as an outdoor lens for me. OK, the real kicker is that it is as sharp as any prime lens that I own. Amazing lens for the price. You have to spend 3X to beat it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Putting the Micro in Micro 4/3rd's When this lens was 1st released it caught my attention for sure. Looked compact with a nice useable range and Aperture for outdoor use. Finally was able to purchase this lens and replace my Olympus 40-150(not bad lens). Was really surprised when I pulled it out of box. Tiny!!!! but sharp looking. About the same size as my 19mm Sigma lens. So now I have Sigma 19mm & 30mm and this Panasonic lens for my OMD-EM5. All 3 lens' use 46mm filters which is awesome and my kit is nice, light and compact....So far am quite surprised and pleased with this lens....nice and sharp for me, good colors and contrast....Well worth it and glad I picked this lens up......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, inexpensive little lens This lens has very good IQ, is remarkably compact, well made, and reasonably priced. I use it on an Olympus E-M10 body with the whole thing fitting in my large parka pocket (my other E-M10 has the Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 on it). I do outdoor photography often in challenging environmental conditions and this setup is very hard to match. I compared the lens against my Pentax DA* 50-135mm on a K5 body and it holds its own quite well. Only the 2.8 pro lenses can do better but at several times the price and size. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens! This tiny zoom lens produces excellent images! For any advanced photographer this should be the lens that is picked as a complement to the Panasonic 14mm micro four thirds lens. The two are wonderful traveling companions. I attach the LUMIX G VARIO 35-100mm f/4.0-5.6 to my Panasonic Lumix GFI. The lens is under five ounces and the combination produces absolutely no strain on my shoulder. Yes, you do have the alternative of the outstanding Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 Lumix G Vario Zoom Len. However, it has a much higher price and weighs much more than the f/4.0-5.6 version. In my opinion, for the advanced, but non-professional photographer, the choice is simple - get the LUMIX G VARIO 35-100mm f/4.0-5.6. You will be happy (and amazed)!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FINE LOWER COST LENS My first additional lens for a Panasonic Lumix camera was purchased to give me more range in still and video photography. With a F4.0-5.6 ASPH it is not a low light lens but for one with a limited budget it will give me an opportunity to expand my shooting experiences. The lens will also be used for macro photography and seems to work well the Vello Extension Tub Set purchased with this lens. The test footage (limited at this writing) is very pleasing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact zoom I purchased this lens for my wife to use with her GX7. First impressions of the construction performance are good. The lens like the 12-32 Panasonic zoom must be extended with the zoom ring before use. A reminder message is displayed one the LCD/EVF to extend the lens. The autofocus is fast. I will update my review after a bit more use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lumix G Vario 35-100 I purchased this lens for my new Panasonic GH4.I figured I use my 70-200 with my DSLR about 80% of the time so this would be a really good focal length with the 2X crop factor on the GH4. The body of this lens is solid and I believe it to metal. It locks /retracts with a simple twist of the zoom. The mount is also metal. It feels solid on the camera. The 35-100 focuses quickly and acurately. Images out of this lens appear quite sharp. Overall I am very satisfied with the lens and the service from B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much Sharper than the 14-42 Kit Lens w/G7 5 Stars for what it is...I bought this lens because It's significantly cheaper than the f2.8 version, and Reviewers have stated this lens is actually quite sharp. I could not find a DXOMark Score on this model only the f2.8. When comparing this lens to the 14-42mm that shipped with my G7 (Also purchased from B & H) I was pleasantly surprised at how much sharper it seems to me. I am not qualified to judge this lens on a technical basis, but I can see the images shot side by side with the same G7 Camera and they are clearly sharper. I really like this photo range for walking around, and I shoot mostly outdoors so this works for me. The small size is amazing... and the weight is hardly noticeable. This lens has a nice feel to it in terms of build quality and the auto focusing speed seems crisp when paired with the G7. I also purchased a Sigma 60mm from B & H which is currently on it's way to Sigma due to an internal defect, however this lens and the Sigma appear to my eyes to be about equally sharp at 120mm 35mm Equivalent. The Sigma however is much faster. I like that all my M43 Gear uses that same size filters. This lens also seems to perform pretty well for use in Video. I also decided to go with the Cheaper version, because no matter how much I like 43 I'm just not convinced the quality of the images is quite there yet in comparison to full frame so I'd rather spend the extra money on another lens for a DSLR system I use when I want the very best quality. Many reviews of the F2.8 say it's not that much sharper, just faster. If you love 43 gear and shoot outside and are looking for a very lightweight small lens with extra reach that is very versatile then this is in my view a good choice. B & H Shipping was very fast (I'm on the West Coast) and the product was packaged well.
