    Rode SVMX reviews

Stereo VideoMic X is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing If you work on small productions and have to fill multiple audio roles, this is a huge addition to your sound kit. Being able to set it up on the camera, tell the video guy how to turn it on (and maybe adjust levels a little) is quick, and the mic will work flawlessly from there. We used it on a week long trip to Vancouver Island in November, and it stood up to the (sopping) wet conditions without a hiccup. It was even mistakenly placed too close to the fire and had no damage apart from slightly singing my fuzzy cover :( The audio quality on this mic is top-notch. It's not a Schoeps matched pair, but it sounds brilliant on everything from music to dialogue to production sounds like foley and sfx. Plug it into a nice preamp and it even works for ambiances. This thing is a durable workhorse (the all metal construction makes it a bit heavy, but feels nice) that provides clear audio for many of the situations I've faced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stellar Performer! I saw the promos for this and listened to the samples on the RDE website before buying. I was a bit nervous as this is an expensive mic but my fears were put to rest the first time I used this. The results were stunning. This is a SERIOUS piece of kit. Very solid with a decent amount of mass. Not too heavy but enough to let you know it can take a bit of use. Only downside and not worth knocking off any points is that it only comes with a 1/8 stereo cable and no mini-xlr to xlr cables. Had to buy a set of those after the fact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW!! That's all I'm gonna say! I've used this a couple times to do live recordings of rock band.... no issues!!They sound levels this band plays at are very high and it handles doing solid recording w/o issue...You can do all the reading on speeds and feeds for this mic but bottom line it works great! This was recorded live via 3.5mm directly into d800... basic EQ settings in FCPx and... well... take a listen...colorfuldreams4u @ vents/The-NOW-/Finn-McGuires-Irish-Pub-Dec/i-9Vt6z3Z/AMy brother got this for me! Thanks BRO!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from impressed This mic has nice stereo sound giving you a nice immersive feeling. It's best used if you have another mic pointed to the talent or a lavalier. It lacks a bit of directivity as it has an X pattern. The mic is prone to humidity humm (even more than Schoeps). Even if it's a bit heavier than other camera mic, it's still ok to use it on a small A7s or a BMPCC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. Worth the money. This is the most immersive stereo microphone you can get for the money. The sound is incredibly clear and three-dimensional. The noise is also very low and there is a +20dB setting to work with low preamp cameras. The perfect on-board camera mic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SVMX is Great! This microphone serves two purposes for me. First is for recording acoustic guitar. I pair this with the Tascam DR-70 via the mini XLR cables. Sound is excellent! The microphone captures the guitar's harmonics well and picks up the room's natural ambiance. There is no appreciable noise/hiss when using this setup. A really nice option is to use the included 3.5mm cable and connect it to the input of the camera, while at the same time, connecting the mic to the DR70 with the XLR cables. This way there is quality backup audio recorded instead of relying on the internal camera microphone. My other purpose for purchasing the SVMX is for nature videography. I recorded a western meadowlark singing from my vehicle. When I played the video back on my computer and listened to it with headphones, it sounded like the bird was inside my truck with me! Very impressive. The included windscreen is quite effective in 10-15mph winds. I haven't had a chance to record in conditions worse than that (as of yet.) Since this microphone is still new to me, I cannot comment on battery life, durability, etc... It does look sturdy and very well built though. I am able to run the mic with phantom power through the Tascam unit, so I will only rely on batteries in run and gun situations. Thanks for reading

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge audio upgrade I purchased to use with my GH4 and my wedding projects sound terrific! This mic is a jack of all trades, live music or music over a DJ system comes in clear and it doesn't mud up the lower frequencies like shotgun mics I've used previously. It's lightweight and does a good job at isolating noise from camera movement/handling. Overall the best upgrade I've made to my system in years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Sound, a bit pricey There's nothing lacking in the build and mic quality and I guess that's what you're paying for but it still seems a bit expensive compared to other mics available for this price. Also that the XLR cables aren't even included seems strange for the price this is going for. All in all though this will bring excellent quality to the top of a camera.
