Blackmagic Design CONVMC Overview

The Mini Converter SDI to Audio 4K from Blackmagic Design allows you to de-embed four channels of analog audio or eight channels of AES/EBU digital audio from any SDI video signal. It features a 6G-SDI input that accepts resolutions up to Ultra HD (3840x2160) and DCI 4K (4096x2160), and provides four 1/4" audio jack connectors for outputting the embedded analog or digital audio channels to an audio monitor, mixer, or other audio equipment. The SDI signal is output over a single 6G-SDI connector, with the resolution and frame rate matching that of the original input source.

Using 6G-SDI technology, the Mini Converter supports UHD and DCI 4K resolutions at up to 30 fps. The Mini Converter also supports Single Link SD, HD, and 3G-SDI signals, automatically detecting and switching between the different formats. A redundant SDI input is provided as an optional back up; with the converter switching over if the main SDI input is lost.

The Mini Converter's settings are controlled using the built-in DIP switches or via USB using the included software for Max OS X or Windows computers. The USB port also enables the firmware to be updated. For powering the device, a 12VDC power supply is included with international socket adapters.

We had to break out audio to an amp while sending video to a jumbotron. This did the trick with zero latency.

I would like to derive audio wordclock from HDMI. ...

I would like to derive audio wordclock from HDMI. My ADC will accept AES as wordclock. Can I use this with CONVMBHS24K6G "HDMI to SDI 6G Mini Converter" to embed silent audio (perhaps from unconnected analog inputs?) and then extract the silence to use as wordclock with this device?
Asked by: Miles
I'm not sure if it is necessary to feed silent audio but you certainly can. If there is no audio on an SDI track the AES audio out will be silent.

question

What is the latency between the SDI video and analogue audio?
Asked by: Brandon
According to Blackmagic Design, The Mini Converter SDI to HDMI has a delay of less than a single line of video, except when it needs to convert PsF to P, which will take one frame. The Analog to SDI has a four line delay.

I'm thinking of using this to send ATEM program audio back to a Blackmagic Studio 4k Pro camera, in addition to the return feed. If I plug the ATEM Switcher's return SDI into this or the even 4k version of this, will the SDI loop out be able to pass camera control, tally, reference, etc. to the camera?
Asked by: Anthony
Yes, the Blackmagic Design SDI to Audio Mini Converter will be able to pass camera control, tally, reference, etc. to the camera.

If I wanted to try and get 8 channels of analog audio embedded - would I be able to use 2 of these units in series?
Asked by: Aaron
The Blackmagic Design SDI to Audio Mini Converter is designed to de-embed audio. You would need the embedding version, which would be the Blackmagic Design Audio to SDI Mini Converter, B&H # BLCOMCAUS2.

What cables do I use to get the 8 channels of digital balanced audio out to a mixer? I don't see any 1/4" Y splits that will carry the signal to a mixer.
Asked by: Andrew
You need 4 TRS to TS or XLR, insert style cables to get out of the 4 connectors on the box to 8 inputs on a mixer.
