    Epson V800 reviews

Perfection V800 Photo Scanner is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent scanner for prints, negatives and slides I purchased the V800 to replace an older Epson scanner. Since I scan a lot of negatives and especially slides, I was a little unsure how this flatbed scanner would work compared to dedicated slide/film scanners. Since those are harder to find (at the least the best ones) and are pretty pricey, I thought I would give the V800 a try. I have not been disappointed. It is fast and produces extremely good results for slides (scanned at 4800 dpi with Digital Ice for dust removal). The included SilverFast software is very unintuitive and difficult to learn, but can produce great results if you have the patience. The Epson scanning software is pretty rudimentary but I edit every scan with Photoshop or ACDsee so that's not an issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid scanner I needed a scanner that had high resolution and could handle large transparencies down to 35mm slides and odd sizes inbetween. This one does the job PRETTY WELL. I have not tried the packaged software as I use VuScan. The 35 mm slide holder works great, the 120mm film holder leaves a lot to be desired. for my large format negatives, i put them straight on the glass. One quirk is that for preview, if the preview image dos not fillthe frame, the scanner will return an all white or all black image for transparencies untill I adjust the media. The scanner seems to try to outhink you sometimes. overall good machine

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleased! This scanner is fast, accurate, and easy to use. I upgraded from a well loved Epson 4990. Don't let the negative carriers confuse you. Go to Epsons website and they will show you the proper way to load them. Or you can go to the internet and join the hundreds of people who didn't go to the Epson website and freak out with them. I personally find the carriers easy to use, and the images quite sharp. I am scanning medium format film and printing up to 24 square. Sorry, I can't speak to the scan quality for huge images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use easy to set up out of the box. Had a few issues with the instillation of the software. Once that was corrected it has been very easy to scan prints, slides and negatives. The online instructions are helpful, only set back is that I am having issues scanning 120 format negatives. The carrier will not hold the film, the film width is to wide for the carrier and when you finally get the film in. The scanner will scan to a 2 1/4 size negative. And I have 6x7, 6x9's and 6x12's I would like to scan. Until I can figure this out, this scanner does pretty well. Easy to use, easy to change carriers, does what it should do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome scanner I am more that pleased with this scanner. I am scanning old neatuves and slides that are many sizes .. Some of the older odd size slides and negatives I was able to made fit in slide trays or trim them. Yes I am an amateur an only want my photos for Sentimental Reasons and a few photographs for an album I am more than pleased with the results they are very good quality after touch up with my photo software easy to use. It would of cost me much more than the cost of the scanner to developer all my negatives . Some negatives that I scanned I had no idea if I even knew who the person or place was and was happy I did not wast a lab fee to develope some of them.. I would definitely recommend it ...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Scanner This is a good scanner with some great features. I just started using it and the Epson scanning sotware is easy to use. You will need to adjust each image before you scan the film holder, and you will need to do some adjusting after the scan in a photomanipulation program. The scanner has a problem with some colors, but that may go away after I use the scanner more. The SilverFast software has some nice features, and will be useful when I want really detailed scans. My plan is to create detailed thumbs with the Epson software for my website, and when a clients wants an image, I'll use SilverFast for a very high quality scan. Be sure to check the dimensions of the scanner compaired to where you want put it. This is a big scanner and needs some room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Prosumer Scanner Made I've had a V-700 for 6 or 7 years and it was a great scanner until a recent problem. The V-800 is the same scanner with an LED lamp which eliminates the warm up time between scans. Although upgraded software is included, I never use it, the Epson software does the job. Not necessary for the casual scan, but if you do any graphic work, it's worth the price. Thank you Epson!! The V-800 Scanner with the SC P-800 printer makes a pro out of this consumer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Scanner I like this scanner very much. It offers up extreme quality scans. The only negative that I have to offer is that the film holders are very difficult to use. Their design is problematic. Apart from being very time consuming to load film into and get it seated properly, usually one edge of the film strip is cut off (in 35mm and 120 format).I prefer to have the entire area around the image area to be included in the scan. I'd very much like Epson to come up with a better system and offer them as a replacement to the ones included with my scanner. I would add that all of my scanning thus far has only been film, so film holder improvement would be a tremendous asset to me. Thank you.
