What are the angled machine screws for on the top plate?
Asked by: Ross
They’re there to lock the head onto the leveling base. After you thread the tripod head onto the 3/8 stud, you tighten those screws down and they push against the bottom of the tripod head locking it in place.

question

My tripod head already has 2 levels for right to left and up and down. Do I need this?
Asked by: George M.
This is primarily to correct an unbalanced tripod for a quicker fix, or situationthat isnt level. Also, for when 10 degrees of adjustment is helpful. I use it as a better mount on a joby gorilla tripod, and as a base for my iOptron skytracker.
