Celestron SkyQ Link 2 Overview

Transform your smartphone or tablet into a wireless controller for your computerized telescope with Celestron's SkyPortal WiFi Module. It plugs into the Hand Control or AUX port and begins to generate it's own WiFi signal to directly connect to your mobile device without the need for a router. Since it uses the telescope's power there are no batteries, plugs, or cables required.

The SkyPortal module works in conjunction with the free SkyPortal mobile app available for iOS and Android devices. The app features a database of over 100,000 objects with astroimages and audio descriptions of hundreds of them including the history, mythology, and key features of them. It can assist with the telescope alignment and if you hold the screen up to sky, it will identify the objects based on your location, date, and time. If you don't know what you want to look at, the SkyPortal app will take you on a guided tour.

I Noticed That Some Have Complained Of The WiFi Being Dropped With This Device. Personally I Have Not Experienced That Problem. I Use An IPad To Control My Telescope And It Works Great.

Need to move it around for it to turn on. Once it's powered up it is extremely hard and confusing to connect to wifi or internet. The app is dated and needs to be more user-friendly.

I have a NexStar 5 that I bought new in or around ...

I have a NexStar 5 that I bought new in or around 1999, (that's the model number as far as I can tell), and was told that I could not update the Eprom or DataBase (NexStar Version 3.13.13.6). The handset LOOKS hardwired into half-fork at the top, but has a single recessed 4-Pin Port connector at the bottom of the handset, (no usb). I'm wondering if this WiFi Module would work with the old controller, (or what it would take to connect? Thanks!

Unfortunately, the SkyPortal WiFi Module is not compatible with the older NexStar 5 telescope. It will work with Celestron's current NexStar SE, NexStar Evolution, and NexStar SLT telescope series.

I dont have a smartphone or tablet. Can I use this device to connect the mount to my laptop so that I can move the telescope using Celestron's SkyPortal?

Unfortunately it is not compatible with a computer. It can only be used with a smart phone or tablet such as an iPad.

Would I be able to use this SkyQ Link 2 with the Starsense Autoalign on my CPC Deluxe 1100? Rather then having to use an outdated RS-232 connection to a laptop.

Yes, the Celestron SkyPortal WiFi Module (BH #CE93973 • MFR #93973) can be used with the Celestron StarSense AutoAlign Telescope Alignment System on the Celestron CPC Deluxe 1100 HD Computerized Telescope.

Does it pull GPS coordinates and date/time from the Android/iOS device? Does it happen if I run Alignment from SkyPortal only? The reason I'm asking is when I started alignment from StarSens hand controller I had to enter location and time. I thought it'd done in background when I connect in SkyPortal.

I read that with SkyPortal you can link your C8" ...

I read that with SkyPortal you can link your C8" edge HD with your iPad, and basically show your little kids on the iPad what the scope sees (they are 5yrs and too small to look through the EP). But how does the SkyPortal see that I changed the EP from standard to 3mm, or that I use a Barlow Lense, and can it therefore show the bigger magnification on the ipad?

SkyPortal WiFi Module connects to your compatible computerized Celestron mount (not the optical tube), so you use the SkyPortal app on your smartphone or tablet to align the telescope and give commands to go-to celestial objects. It will not show you a live view of what the telescope is showing through the eyepiece or an eyepiece attached to a Barlow Lens. However, the app does provide audio and informative information on popular celestial objects.
