Nitecore EC20 overview

  • 1Description

The EC20 Flashlight from NITECORE feature bright white light CREE XM-L2 LED combined with "Precision Digital Optics Technology" to deliver improved reflector performance inside diamond knurled HA III anodized aluminum body. It also features high, medium, low and ultra-low brightness modes and international SOS, location beacon, and strobe flashing modes. Use the comfortable rubberized side button to switch between brightness and flushing modes. The button also has a battery status indicator glowing with a blue light around the perimeter. The flashlight also features a constant current output circuit which enables operation for a maximum of 520 hours.

To make it useful in a variety of situations like outdoors and professional activities, the NITECORE outfitted this flashlight with a waterproof, submersible to 6.6', impact resistant to 5', durable high grade aluminum housing with HA III anodized finish and comfortable and slip-free handle diamond knurling. To help you concentrate on your task, the flashlight has an anti-roll polygon ring located at the base of the head. To enable you to project light in a vertical direction for example, to illuminate ceiling, the tailcap has a smooth round shroud so it can stand stably on a rough surface. To help you switch between the brightness and flashing modes even while wearing gloves, the NITECORE EC20 is equipped with a rubberized power button. Also included with the light are lanyard and a spare o-ring.

    Nitecore EC20 reviews

EC20 Flashlight is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible light I bought this light b/c I already have two other Nitecores and they are wonderful lights. This one is very far from wonderful. Actually, it should have been recalled. The lack of a tail-cap switch and the awful mid-body switch lead to many problems, such as coming on inadvertently in a pocket-- and this light gets HOT. Here are my objections--- (1) The switch is not reliable: it will not hold a mode and you never know what you are going to get. (2) It eats batteries like candy, even when off. (3) I have another 'real' 960 lumen light and this one doesn't measure up. Plus, it only holds its brightest setting for a very short time. (4) Switch comes on too easily, as when in a pocket where it gets hot enough to scorch fabric. Sorry I ever bought the thing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little flashlight I bought this flashlight to replace the little inexpensive 200 lumen cree flashlights I keep giving away to family members. I already own a Nitecore SRT6 and am very happy with it. When I saw the EC-20 and saw that it had the same lumenal output as my SRT6 in such a small package I was instantly interested. The build quality is great, very solid and comes with extra o-rings. The design feature that bothers me a bit is the on/off switch. It's a push button forward on the body of the flashlight and I find myself often rotating the flashlight in my hand trying to find the button. The button works great it's just finding it. My SRT6 has the push button on the end of the unit, I always know where it is. This is not a deal breaker just an annoyance. As far as light output, I tested the two side-by-side with a fresh set of batteries and the little EC-20 does indeed match the light output of its larger brother the SRT6! There are 4 levels of light output (1,50,210 & 960 lumens) and cycling between them is easily accomplished via the push button. There are also various strobe modes which I haven't used yet so don't want to comment on. All in all I'm happy with my purchase, bottom line is it's a very bright and sturdy flashlight and the size is great. BTW I use one 18650 battery vs. two CR123A batteries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice EDC light Nice EDC light. Standard illumination modes are nearly perfect. 1 Lumen is great for those times you may wake up in the middle of the night & don't need a lot of light to see, likewise, 50 lumens is great for in-house needs. 210 lumen is great for short to intermediate range outdoor use, while 960 lumen mode will let you see for hundreds of feet. Strobe mode is far more disorienting than the strobe on my SRT-7, & I love that it also has S.O.S. & locator beacon modes. This will be replacing a Mini-Maglite Pro LED as an EDC flashlight. When used with a Protected Panasonic 3400mAh 18650 battery (NCR18650B), I get the following runtimes: 50 lumen = 36 hours 210 lumen = 8 hours 960 lumen = 1.8 hours Haven't tested 1 lumen mode, but theoretically should hit about 680 hours or about 28 day. Also tested with unprotected Panasonic 2200mAh 18650 (CGR18650CG) & got about same runtime as Nitecore states with 2xCR123A batteries. Also, if you want to diffuse the light, just use a bottle cap from a 500ml water bottle, it fits perfectly! When run at 50 lumen or less, it never heats up. But when run at 210 or 960 lumen modes, this light will heat up quickly. It becomes noticably warm after about 2-3 minutes & hot after about 10 minutes @ 210 lumen level, but never uncomfortably hot. However, when run @ 960 lumen level it becomes quite hot in about 10 seconds, & uncomfortably hot after about 1 minute.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Where is the battery? For that price I was expecting a small or any battery in the package. Fortunately, with two spare ordered I was able to test it.The light is pretty bright, however I strongly doubt on the given performance rate; just one minute of testing, mostly on medium and the battery on its NTC charger is still not recharged after 10 minutes.Good hardware, good grip, haven't figured out how the flashlight can stand up straight on its base with the strap mounted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great deal @ $ 960 lumen flashlight is great for emergencies. The rechargeable batteries are good for 500 recharges and last a long time without 'leaking' like normal Duracell batteries, which gunk up long storage flashlights.
