This Nest Protect Alarm model is powered by six Energizer Ultimate AA lithium batteries that should provide multiple years of operation before the first battery replacement is required. The alarm features an integrated self-testing function. Several times each day it runs diagnostic tests on itself to make sure that it is working perfectly. You can easily tell if your Nest Protect is still working smoothly because every time you turn the lights off a glowing green light ring will appear quickly. This LED indicator is designed to let you know that your Nest Protect Alarm is still running strong. The Protect Alarm will also notify you when the long-life AA lithium batteries are nearing the end of their life so you'll know all six AA batteries need to be replaced.
