Marshall Electronics V-LCD71MD Overview

The V-LCD71MD-O 7" 1920 x 1080 Camera-Top Monitor with HDMI Input & Dual 3G-SDI Output Module from Marshall Electronics provides an HD display with adjustable LED backlight. The 7" screen is suitable for use with most cameras ranging from DSLRs to larger shoulder mounted type cameras without overwhelming your camera. This model includes the MD-O module that provides two 3G-SDI outputs, converted from the HDMI input signal, complementing the monitor's built-in HDMI output.

With a maximum screen brightness of 700 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 800:1, the monitor is suitable for use both indoors and out, while the 170° viewing angle allows for off-angle viewing with significant image degradation. The DSLR ratio adjustments provide you with four presets to adjust the aspect ratio of the input to match the monitor providing you choices for minimum distortion when using a camera with an aspect ratio different than the monitor's.

Ther monitor features a variety of evaluation tools to give you control over your image, including an on-screen waveform display, focus peaking function for precise focus control, False Color, Zebra bars, and custom screen guide selections. The 3G-SDI outputs convert the HDMI input into HDCP compliant 3G SDI outputs. The monitor incorporates 1/4"-20 threaded mounting holes on each side, and it includes a battery plate that lets you attach one of Marshall's optional battery adapters, available for a wide range of camcorder, DSLR, or V-Mount batteries.

DSLR Ratio Adjustment
This features lets you can scale your DSLR video output, fill the screen, and eliminate black pillar bars with a variety of options to choose from. This is particularly useful for some Canon DSLR cameras. Choose between Normal, 3:2, 16:9, and Full Screen. The feature can be programmed to one of the front panel's four function buttons for quick and easy access.
Waveform & Audio Displays
The V-LCD71MD incorporates both a waveform display and stereo audio bars. These may be displayed separately or together in any one of the four corners of the monitor. The stereo audio is de-embedded from either the HDMI input (8 channels) or from the 3G/HD/SD-SDI input (16 channels). Any pair of the available channels may be selected for both the display and the headphone output.
Zebra Function (IRE Clip Guide)
The Zebra function (Clip Guide) is used to visually filter data on the screen that is under a lower threshold or over an upper threshold. Data on either side of the filters can be displayed with a custom color. The Zebra function can also be inverted to filter the area between the upper and lower Threshold. The color selected for the lower threshold acts as the color for all inverted Zebra data.
False Color Filter
The False Color filter is used to aid in the setting of camera exposure. As the exposure is adjusted, elements of the image will change color based on the luminance or brightness values. This enables proper exposure to be achieved without the use of costly, complicated external test equipment.
Peaking Filter
The Peaking filter is used to aid the camera operator or assistant with obtaining proper focus. When activated, the internal processor will display a colored highlight on the screen where sharp edges appear. When the focus is pulled, different parts of the image will have these colored highlights. This indicates that this portion of the image is sharp or in focus. The filter keeps the original color of your scene, but adds a choice of four colors, red, green, yellow, and pink to choose from for the highlights as well as adjustable sensitivity for fine-tuned control.
Six Custom Configuration Presets
Six user setting presets allow the user to save six system configuration files for later recall when needed. These configuration files will save 38 different parameters that can be adjusted by the user.
