Good product.

A fluid mount that works.

After trying to create my own fluid mounting station with mixed results, I decided to spend the money on one built for the V750 scanner I acquired. This makes the prep and scan process much easier than my homebrewed station. Definitely worth the investment. If you are spending the money on being a film photographer, this is not the place in your workflow to scimp.

Maximize Your Flatbed!

This bit of kit is a no brain essential if you want to maximize scans from your flatbed. I use this with the Epson V850 and the scans have been superb. Unfortunately, wet scan supplies from Aztec are very pricey ($165, yikes!) but that is not what this review is about. The fluid mount works great and is quite easy to use. A nice, large work table is another essential.

How many 35mm 6-frame strips can it hold at once ...

How many 35mm 6-frame strips can it hold at once ? Does the batch-scanning function work for 18 negatives or 3 strips at once, or do I have to scan each frame individually ?
Asked by: Ryan
I contacted Epson concerning your inquiry. According to Epson, when you are using fluid with the fluid mount, it requires the removal of every air bubble. This task becomes more difficult when more film is placed on the glass. Using 35mm film is not ideal as it can have a natural curl. While you may get one film strip to lay flat it will get more difficult as you add more strips. If the film is flat, you could get up to 3 strips; however, it is not recommended. When using the Fluid mount, each frame has to be manually marqueed (you have to manually select the scan area for each." As such, to summarize, it is possible, but is not ideal or recommended to scan more than one 35mm film strip at a time, and batch processing is not possible.

question

Details state that it's for v700/750/800/850 is that just because the v600 is older, so they just left it off of the list, or will this actually not fit on a v600?
Asked by: Ben B.
I own the 650 and the 750, which came with a wet mount labeled for the 700. I just attempted to place this on my 650 Epson Scanner, bought refurbished here, and it fit perfectly. The measurements of the glass must be the same between the various models. Tho I will add, it is not advertised to work with these earlier models and I, for one, do not like the idea of wetting my film, after it has been processed. Also in videos I see users wiping down their negs and slides with various photo rags. No! Do not wipe your film, ever. I'm leary of even carefully wiping down the scan bed, or any lenses, no matter if it's a necessary evil. An aside, the expensive Nikon CS more than once, destroyed whole rolls of film while pulling them in all at once. -Retired Ford World Headquarters Main Scanner here

question

can it be used dry? hold the film flat? calibration for height? anti-newton ring glass? how much fluid does it take? can fluid be reused? how much trouble is cleaning it after each scan?
Asked by: Marc
Nonsense to use it dry. The fluid is needed as an interface between the film and the glass and fill the air gap.

question

Does the Epson Fluid Mount accessory require a special liquid? If so, where can it be obtained?
Asked by: Harold J.
Do NOT use mineral oil, it will become a total mess and very difficult to clean ! Instead use Zippo Premium lighter fluid, works as a breeze.

question

Is anyone familiar with the older Epson 4490 model scanner? Do you think this mount could work with that?
Asked by: Jeff
I don't know. I bought mine for the V800, the one it was designed for. Sorry.
