Neumann KH 310 D Overview

The right sided Neumann KH 310 D - Active Studio Monitor with Digital Input and Delay combines a 1" titanium fabric dome tweeter, a 3" fabric dome midrange with a neodymium magnet, and an 8.25" long throw composite sandwich woofer with an extremely linear force factor and a ribbed surround, all powered by class AB analog amplification.

The drivers were designed using modeling techniques to minimize non-linear (inter-modulation) distortion, and each driver has an independent thermo limiter to protect the voice coils. It can be used as a near-field monitor, as a front loudspeaker in mid-sized multi-channel, or as a rear loudspeaker in a larger multi-channel system for project, music, broadcast centers, OB vans, and post production studios for tracking, mixing, and mastering.

The speaker features both analog and daisy-chainable digital BNC I/O for flexible digital inter-connectivity (24 bit, 192 kHz, AES3, and S/P-DIF). It also features digital Lipsync delay (from 0 to 10/12 frames) for aligning audio and video signals as well as digital time-of-flight delay (from 0 to 400 ms) to compensate for different listening distances.

The front panel is made from one piece without discontinuities to reduce diffraction with protective metal grills and the cabinet is made of magnetically shielded aluminum to reduce resonances, improve heat dissipation, and extend the operating lifetime of the unit.

The system delivers a free field frequency response of 34 to 21,000 Hz with 4-position bass, low-mid, and treble acoustical controls for tailoring the response to different rooms and an input gain control from 0 to -15 dB. The front panel Neumann logo functions as an LED indicator for power and clip/limiting but can also be dimmed for light applications and for use when placed behind screens. A variety of wall, ceiling, truss, subwoofer, stand, and surface mounting options are available as well as transportation options through a range of accessories (sold separately).

Powerful Alloy Fabric Dome
Provides low-distortion high frequency sound reproduction
Elliptical Mathematically Modeled Dispersion Waveguide
Provides smoother off-axis response for more forgiving and diverse acoustic environments and reduced reflections off the mixing console
In-House Simulated Drivers
Uses latest modeling techniques to minimize non-linear (inter-modulation) distortion
Fabric Dome Neodymium Magnet Midrange Driver
Uses dedicated midrange driver to reproduce important midrange frequencies, which is especially important for speech and vocals with a faster transient response and less breakup modes than cone designs. The high power magnet reduces harmonic and inter-modulation distortion
Long Throw Composite Sandwich Cone Bass Driver with Extremely Linear Force Factor & Ribbed Surround
Provides damping of break-up modes and low distortion at high sound levels. The linear piston motor gives a very low harmonic distortion even at high excursions with reduced radial break-up modes on the ribbed surround
Two-Color + Dimmable Neumann Logo
Displays operation status and activation of the extensive protection system
Compact Sealed Three-Way Cabinet Design (Magnetically Shielded)
Ensures no standing wave resonances and faster bass transient response with reduced inter-modulation distortion in the midrange
One-Piece Front Panel Without Discontinuities
Reduces diffraction and smoother frequency response
Powerful Analog Class AB Amplifiers With Ample Headroom
Improves transient response
Independent Thermo Limiters for Woofer, Midrange Dome, and Tweeter
Protects voice coils and provides fast acting highly reliable operation and extraction of the maximum performance from the system
Production Consistency
Ensures matched pairs
4-Position Bass, Low-Mid and Treble Acoustic Controls
Enables more control in diverse acoustical environments
Wide Range of Input Gain and Output Level Controls
Enables easier interfacing with signal sources
Ground Lift
Reduces noise in electrically noisy environments and over comes ground loops
Digital XLR and BNC Inputs With Buffered BNC Output
Provides flexible and trouble-free digital inter-connectivity (24-bit, 192 kHz, AES3 and S/P-DIF)
Lipsync Delay (0 to 10/12 Frames)
Allows you to align audio and video signals
Time-Of-Flight Delay (0 to 400 ms)
Allows system to compensate for listening distance differences
Universal Switched-Mode Power Supply (100 to 240 V)
Allows for one version to work in any country and with poor quality main power supplies
Mounting Hardware Options
Offers flexibility in mounting cabinets in more diverse locations and provides backwards compatibility with previous models
Optional Metal Grill
Protects against mechanical damage
Optional Transportation Accessories
Offers soft carry bag with space for cables and a robust wooden flight case
Display Dimmer
Allows adjustments for low lighting conditions or behind the screen applications
