RAID 0
Combine all drives into a single array offering maximum storage capacity with no redundancy.
RAID 1
Mirrors the four drives, creating an exact copy of data on each drive for fault tolerance.
RAID 5
Stripe the data across all four drives, interspersing parity data to provide an efficient blend of fault tolerance and storage capacity.
RAID 10
Mirror two sets of hard drives and combines them into a single array, striping data across all mirrored sets for fault tolerance and increased performance.
Hot-Swappable Hard Drives
DriveStation Quad's hot-swap feature allows you to replace a hard drive in the event of failure without powering down the device. Simply remove the defective drive, insert the new drive, and the data rebuilds while still being available to clients on the network with zero downtime.

Buffalo Quad External HDD Reviews

Reliable, consistently quick, and lots of storage.

Changing RAID modes on this box in quick and painless with the included RAID configuration utility. The device includes backup software but I prefer to use Macrium Reflect. In RAID 0 mode the drive can easily sustain over 120 MB (mega BYTEs not megabits) per second on a capable hosted server over USB 3.0 It is likely even faster over USB 3.1. When I outgrow this I will be buying a newer larger version starting with Buffalo's products. The B & H purchase was awesome as usual!

Great

Drive worked nicely. The RAID utility was minimal and easy to use.

If i'm running out of space in my 16tb 4 Bay, do i need a new DriveStation or i can just buy new drives? If have to be buffalo HDD or it can be of a different brand?
Asked by: victoria
If you are running a RAID setup then all drives installed must be the same size, so you will not be able to upgrade single drives to a new capacity. Drives used with this enclosure can be other brands such as WD or Seagate, here is the official list of compatible models from Buffalo: https://bit.ly/3yxSnIP

If I buy the 24TB version, and run it in RAID 5 or 10, how much usable storage will I have?
Asked by: Benjamin
In a RAID 5 configuration, the Buffalo DriveStation Quad 24TB 4-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Array (4 x 6TB), B&H # BUHDQH24TU3R, would give you 18TB of usable storage capacity; in RAID 10, it would give you 12TB of usable storage capacity.

Do I need a backup replacement drive available in case one of the 4 drives fails so I can do a fast recovery to full operations? If so what would I order?

It is always best to have a spear drive just in case. This Buffalo DriveStation Quad 24TB 4-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Array (4 x 6TB) would be able to support the Buffalo 6TB 3.5" HDD found here ----> https://bhpho.to/3slXbMY .BH #BUOPHD60QH • MFR #OP-HD6.0QH
