Bright Tangerine B1250.1015 Reviews
Unbelievably overpriced. Just ok.
Picked up a set of Cooke S4’s and needed the 110mm adapter for my Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom - which is one of my favorite matte boxes for its small lightweight design. However the accessories they sell for it (like this 110mm ring adapter) are priced excessively, even for film standards. This little plastic adapter ring feels about like the part of a gallon milk jug that you peel off when you take the cap off. It’s literally that flimsy and light. It also doesn’t really work that well. You sort of have to force it into the matte box while holding it to the lens to get it to fit. It’s not an optimal design and makes swapping lenses a hassle. Honestly this adapter should be 10-20 dollars tops. The fact they can charge us almost seventy bucks for this thing is just insanity. It’s a flimsy piece of plastic. C’mon Tangerine! I’d recommend the ARRI LMB 4x5 matte box instead if you need a clamp on matte box with adapter rings in a pro setting. The ARRI clamp on rings are a little over 150 bucks each but are metal construction and so much more solid/easy to use. I just don’t feel comfortable swapping lenses with this flimsy piece of plastic being the only thing holding on to my pricey cinema lenses. Do better and charge less Bright T! You get a thumbs down from Film Jams! (Still love our Misfit Atom tho for 114mm Lenses where we don’t need the adapter ring)
It's...a clamp ring for stepping down a 114mm lens to 110mm.
It...works to make a 114mm matte box work with 110mm lenses like Cooke s4's. It works as well as any other clamp ring. The review headline says it all. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the price. All clamp rings are just cheap rings of plastic, but we buy them because we have to. (To spread out costs, I just buy one ring each time I need another one for each job that requires different clamp rings and if there isn't enough time, I just get one from the rental house. I've got 3 so far...80---good for Kowa Anamorphic and Zeiss Super Speeds, the 95 for Ultra Primes and the Cooke's) This one, the price seems especially painful. On ones like the 80mm...well, that's a lot of plastic. This is so tiny and lightweight, the price seems pretty high. But whatever...that's this crazy buisiness.
