This item has an IR jack on the front. Is an IR remote receiver required to use the included remote control? Or is that IR jack just to have the unit inside a cabinet? Will the remote control work on the unit without an external receiver connected to the front jack? Is a remote receier included in the box?
Asked by: Randy
The decision to not include a built in ir receiver is intended to decrease the possibility of bad ir reception. Per the manufacturer, "The receiver/decoder is supplied with an external IR receiver. This is in the form of a cable with an IR receiver at the end.The pigtail MUST be installed for the ZvSync to receive commands from the remote control device and is required for proper operation. By separating the Infrared receiver from the base unit, the main body of the ZvSync receiver/decoder can be installed in an unobtrusive location with only the IR sensor showing. The 3.5mm plug on the Infrared pigtail must be plugged in to the front "IR" port on the ZvSync main unit for proper operation."

question

Can I use this to decode my cable connection (QAM with multiple channels) and stream it over a projector (HDMI compatible)?
Asked by: Anonymous
This is a very nice digital QAM tuner that works well in a facility that does not have encrypted (aka scrambled ) channels. It will not decode scrambled channels, that are delivered by the cable providers. If you need a cable box from Comcast or Charter or Time Warner, in order to decode your channels on your TVs, you'll need one of their boxes for your projector. OTOH, if you can direct tune your TVs, your channels are in the clear and the ZvSync will work.

question

I have a DVD recorder/VCR with no tuner. Can I run my cable (Comcast) through this tuner?
Asked by: Anonymous
At this time, most cable companies are scrambling the signals, and this will not work. If your cable company allows you to tune the TV signal without any kind of cable box, and modern TVs can tune in the channels, then yes, this should work fine.

question

CAN I USE THE ZeeVee ZvSync High-Definition Digital Cable Tuner AS A REPLACEMENT FOR MY FIOS STB BOX?
Asked by: Robert
If Verizon allows you to use a QAM tuner for basic programming, then you can use this tuner. However, your TV probably has a QAM tuner already. Like most providers, Verizon scrambles their programming and will require one of their boxes.

question

Can I play a standard vcr channel 3 output to the input of the ZbSync and attach it to my HDMI on my TV?
Asked by: Anonymous
I don't think so. It is a qam tuner so it only tunes digital cable type signals. VCR's only use NTSC analog frequency modulation on Channel 3.
