Star Adventurer Equatorial Wedge Base is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must-have accessory for Star Adventurer I use this EQ wedge base with the Star Adventurer motorized tracking mount for precision control in aligning the Star Adventurer with Polaris (the north star). For accurate tracking and tack-sharp images of stars and other celestial objects, you must properly align the Star Adventurer with Polaris. Using this Equatorial Wedge Base with the Star Adventurer allows you to fine-tune and lock in the alignment to achieve the best results. It easily fits on a tripod as well as inside a camera bag along with other night sky photography equipment. I keep my EQ wedge base permanently attached to my Star Adventurer and stow it in my camera bag for traveling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Equatorial Wedge a must have for Star Adventurer I originally purchased the Sky Watcher Star Adventurer without the Equatorial Wedge, thinking I could use it on a regular tripod with pan-tilt. I was correct, it worked just fine. In fact, it tracked all night long perfectly. However, upon this first use I also noted how much more stable and how much easier it would be to polar align if I had purchased the Equatorial Wedge. I immediately ordered the wedge the next day and have been extreamly happy with the entire system since. The wedge is solid, well built, and the fine adjustment knobs makes polar aligning a cinch. Don't make the same mistake I did, trying to save a few bucks. Order the complete package, you will not be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy at any price I purchased this to replace a manfrotto 410 geared head that I am using with an astrotrack tracker, and focal lens lengths of 800mm+ with a dslr. The manfrotto head was giving me just a little flex with the heavier lenses, and this is rock solid. It's a very simple mount and well made. The altitude adjustment is made with a coarse gear and locking mechanism. The horizontal adjustment is made using two opposing screws. Note that the horizontal adjustment allows for perhaps only15 or 20 degrees of motion, and you'll have to guestimate your initial pointing direction within this range to avoid picking up your tripod mid-setup. If it was geared in the same manner as the altitude adjustment this would improve it's functionality a little. It is however, well made, solid, and easily adjustable, even under load. It's a steal at $.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wedge Base Essential for Accurate Polar Alignment I purchased this item to compliment the Star Adventurer Mount. I used it to adjust and accurately set the latitude of the mount in order to achieve accurate polar alignment. As most astrophotographers know, accurate polar alignment is THE KEY to obtaining good astro images. The unit is robust in construction and the latitude adjustment works great. It offers greater accuracy and stability versus a standard photo tripod head. Set it once, and you need not readjust it again unless you travel to a different latitude to capture images. There are no known negatives relative to this item.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A decent product but could be improved I only use this for the solar eclipse so far and it worked okay but I think it could be improved. I never felt like the lever got tight enough and I was afraid if I kept trying to tighten it that it would Twist Off. I also wish that there was a way to lock in the micro adjustments with respect to the Turning base

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You don't NEED it BUT... It's Worth every Penny Stop the madness! Locking onto Polaris is 10 times faster AND more accurate using this vs. your tripod adjustments. It tilts very precisely and is very solidly built. The tracker I use it with pf the same manufacturer works extremely well. The combination of the two will give you great results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great The clamp on the Sky Watcher Wedge is a little bit of a pain in that you must remember to bring all the parts. I've inadvertently left the base plate at the house and gave up in frustration trying to get my Vixen Polarie aligned on a ball head. Overall it’s clear some thought went into the base plate, there’s a screw on the underside of one end that acts as a safety. But my biggest gripe is the large size of the knob used to clamp the base plate – it’s interfered with things above. I wouldn’t try to use the original clamp with any arca swiss base plates. The depth of the clamp is deeper than a normal arca swiss plate. For reference, the Skywatcher clamp is 7/16” deep. The clamp on the Sky Watcher is removal, it's held in place with two flat head screws (no thread lock). I also have a Really Right Stuff B2-AS-II-M6 clamp. The M6 bolt that's used for that clamp is larger (wider and longer) than the two holding the original clamp. Measurements on the bolts holding the original Skywatcher clamp have a head size of 3/8" with a length of 3/8". Also, the base looks like it's got more thread depth than the original screws provide. I like the Skywatcher Wedge for what it is (cheap and functional), but it’s no Arca-Swiss Cube.
