Rated 2 out of 5 by from Design Flaws I have used many different brands of computers over my life time and had several different types both laptops and towers. My children gave me an Acer Aspire as a gift . It is the worst I've ever owned. The touch pad is huge and constantly gets bumped when one is typing resulting in constantly shifting and shrinking or enlarging type. The keys stick and have a very hard touch as does the space bar. There are no ports for transferring photos from a camera to a computer and so on. In my opinion this is a piece of junk and I would throw it away if I didn't want to hurt my kids feelings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Has a lot going for it. I would preface every thing with for the price. This is a surprisingly fast netbook the dual core celeron adjusts it clock speed between 500MHz and 2.55+GHz unnoticeably depending on how much load the CPU is under. Unlike other notebooks in this class the memory is upgradable. Bumping the memory to 8Gigs of DDR3 makes this notebook a real work horse I use it pretty heavily and have not found it lacking. Not all CPU handle virtualization well and I don't know all the details that affect that but the Celeron that is in this notebook works really well with Virtualbox especially since you can dedicate several Gigs of RAM to a VM with plenty left for Windows 8. It has USB3, SD Card reader and Gigabit ethernet so there are plenty of expansion options available. The full size HDMI port means that you don't have to search for an adapter when connecting to projectors and the weight, size and battery life make this a really nice travelling companion. Now for the downsides the track pad has been flakey and locks up occasionally there is a fix for this. Capacitive sensors are very sensitive to grounding issues and the touch pad module on this notebook is grounded using an adhesive flat wire and only one of the two grounding pads is connected. From what I understand if wire is soldered to both grounding pads it will solve the problems it has. In practice I haven't had to much trouble much of the time I use it next to my desktop and use the Mouses with Out Borders software from MS to control the notebook and fortunately the trackpad hasn't acted up on me when using it for presentations also if the trackpad does freeze you can toggle it off and on using fn + f7 and it will start working again. The key board is usable but could be better, I generally don't like the chiclet style keyboard found on this class of notebook and this one is no different.
