Nitecore EA21 overview

  • 1Description

Designed as an everyday carry light for law enforcement professionals and military personnel, Nitecore's EA21 Explorer LED Flashlight features a white CREE XP-G2(R5) primary LED that produces five output intensities from a task-orientated 1-lumen to a bright 360-lumen to illuminate the darkest corners. Three strobe modes - location beacon, SOS distress signal, disorientating tactical strobe - can be used when emergencies arise. A secondary low-output red LED can be set for constant-on to perform tasks such as checking IDs or reading maps without affecting night adjusted vision, or flashing so you can find the light in the dark.

The intelligent dual body switches remember the last-mode selected and give users instant access to the minimum or turbo outputs, the secondary red light, and strobe modes when the light is off. Dual lockout functions prevent accidental activation during transportation or when strict light discipline must be maintained.

A stepped-down body design, coupled with a diamond-textured handle, promote the use of a tactical power grip with various handgun shooting stances, self-defense, or conducting searches. To withstand the rigors of daily use, the housing is made of a light and durable aluminum alloy with a corrosion and scratch-resistant anodized finish. Its hardened and scratch-resistant tempered glass emitter window has an anti-reflection coating to maximize light transmission. The housing is impact resistant to 5' and O-ring sealed for an IPX8 rating, making it submersible to 6.6'. It runs on two readily-available disposable or rechargeable AA batteries.

    Nitecore EA21 reviews

EA21 Explorer LED Flashlight is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Flashlight! Bought this flashlight to walk my dog around the neighborhood at night. I never wouuld have imagined something so small could produce so much light. The turbo mode beam lights up houses at the end of the road and even the mid-levels are incredibly bright. Buying a $ flashlight might seem crazy but once you see the light (no pun intended) you will realize it is worth it. I feel safe knowing nothing could sneak up on me, even from 200 yards away.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from expensive but nice should have made it clear that there was a silica gel pack in the barrel of the flashlight that needs to be removed before trying to load batteries..not obvious

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Another complicated Nitecore I have two other nitecore lights (P12 and EA8). The P12 is a very easy to use light. Just press the tail cap to turn on/off and adjust the brightness by pressing the single button near the head. The EA8 uses a single button that works like a SLR camera button to get to the various brightness levels and functions. (Took me forever to learn this interface and if I don't use it regularly I have to get the user manual out to jog my aging memory). With this new EA21, Nitecore has managed to confuse me all over again. Now they have moved the on/off functions to the head of this light next to the brightness button and both buttons are too small. Sure, this lamp projects a decent long throw beam which includes a separate red secondary light for occasions that call for it, but Nitecore needs to stop changing the user interface with each new model. Now for the good news. This light seems to be of high quality and the fact that it uses 2 aa batteries is a real bonus. It is very bright and compact. The included holster is better than some other manufacturers holsters (hint to Fenix). I also like the pocket clip. The clip is a deep carry design meaning that it will allow the light to ride lower in your pocket. Sorry, but I gave this light to my Grandson as he likes complicated things. I just don't have any use for a flashlight that requires too much thought in operating it.
