Ken-a-Vision designed the 110 VAC US version of their binocular-head configured TU-19331C Comprehensive Scope 2 Compound Microscope from the ground up as an ideal instrument for entry level to advanced science courses that is durable and student-friendly. Its angled head provides a more comfortable viewing experience that non-angled heads are often unable to provide, and the entire head rotates a full 360° to facilitate sharing among groups of students and/or the instructor. The binocular eyepiece configuration allows users to view with both eyes open which reduces fatigue common with long-term use of monocular designs. A binocular view also preserves stereoscopic vision for a rich depth of view unobtainable with monocular heads and which is important when viewing textiles, rocks, minerals, coins, and other irregularly shaped 3-D samples.

The optical system features two 10x eyepieces - one with an integrated pointer - set in a 30°-angled binocular head, and a four-objective 360° rotating turret with click-stop positions at each lens. Four objectives from 2x to 40x produce a broad magnification range of 20x to 400x making this microscope a versatile observation tool. Its achromatic glass objectives are designed to correct for chromatic and spherical aberrations in the center 60% of the field of view, so images have a true color representation with virtually no distortion at the central point of observation. If users need to change or replace objectives, Ken-a-Vision designed them to DIN standards to enable parts from many manufacturers to be installed without the need for modifications.

The microscope features a floating stage with spring-loaded specimen clips. Specimens are lit from below with an LED and an additional LED is set above the stage for use when observing solid or opaque specimens that require them to be lit from the top. The LEDs are powered by either the included power adapter or permanently installed rechargeable battery pack. There are two independent rheostats providing control of each LED intensity, and to help control the amount of light illuminating the specimen from below is a built-in condenser on the stage. This multifunction adjustability enables precise illumination for the perfect image.

Optical System
  • Two 19mm wide-field 10x eyepieces - one with an integrated pointer
  • 2x NA 0.05 Achromat objective: 20x magnification
  • 4x NA 0.10 Achromat objective: 40x magnification
  • 10x NA 0.25 Achromat objective: 100x magnification
  • 40x(S) NA 0.65 Achromat objective: 400x magnification
  • Achromatic glass objectives correct chromatic and spherical aberrations in the center 60% of the field of view, so images have a true color representation with virtually no distortion
  • DIN standard allows for eyepiece and objectives to be changed/replaced using a wide-range of parts from different manufacturers
  • 40x objective features built-in spring action tip that avoids crushing specimens if lowered too far
  • Lead-free glass with anti-fog multicoatings
Focusing System
  • Low-position coaxial focusers
  • Dual controls for right or left-handed focus focusing
  • Textured rubber grips on fine and coarse dials
Lighting System
  • Sub-stage, white LED specimen illumination
  • Upper light for opaque and solid specimens
  • Base-mounted activation switch
  • Low-position rheostat provides brightness control
  • Permanently-installed rechargeable battery pack with 40 hour runtime and 8 hour charge time
  • Includes a 110 VAC US voltage power adapter
