This Formatt Hitech 85 x 85mm Neutral Density 1.2 Filter is an ND filter with a 16x filter factor that provides a 4-stop exposure reduction and is compatible with a Formatt Hitech 85mm Aluminum Modular Holder or Cokin P Series Filter Holder. Its 1.2 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

This filter is non-coated and is constructed from optical-quality resin for clarity as well as color fidelity.

Compatible with a Formatt Hitech 85mm Aluminum Modular Holder or Cokin P Series Filter Holder.

85 x 85mm Neutral Density 1.2 Filter (4-Stop) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Consumer grade, but works I use this filter during really bright conditions when I need a really long shutter speed. For example, when I need a 3 second exposure of a waterfall, but lowest ISO gives me 1/60. The filter gets the job done, but it's far from being professional quality. It gets scratched easily, it always attracts a lot of dust, and it has a weird discoloration in the coating right in the middle. The image quality is not affected, but I consider that a minus in a filter, since it's supposed to be uniformly transparent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine if you need it The first part of my review addresses whether you actually need this product or not, since that is a key part of any buying decision. I bought this filter for a waterfall shoot, so I could slow down the shutter speed to emphasize water movement. Once on location, howerever, I found that I never needed it. With the ISO set to 100, aperature at f/16 or f/22 and a circular polarizer my shutter speeds were plenty slow. In fact, I had to increase ISO and open up a stop on several occasions. So in my case, I didn't need it. So how does this filter perform? On a different day, I visited a local lake to test it out. There were some nice fall colors, but the water was choppy and the reflections were poor. I used the 4-stop ND filter with the polarizer to slow the SS way down - around 8 seconds. The water movement became a pleasingly soft surface with a hint of reflected colors. This created a more 'dreamy' affect. Conclusion: You have to analyze your own needs and intended purpose for buying a 4-stop ND filter. If you want a slight blur to moving water, then adjusting your camera settings is probably all you need. But if you want a really slow SS, then it makes sense to get this filter. I did notice the magenta color cast others have mentioned. It seemed to show up once you get past 3 or 4 seconds. Artistically, You might like that. If not, fixing it in post processing is not hard. All in all, this filter does what its supposed to do. Quality seems fine and the price is reasonable. I gave it 4 stars due to the magenta cast (not truely Neutral).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Cheap filter that does the job nice. No colour tint as I have seen with Colkin filters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good ND Filter Filter gives a very slight magenta & blue cast while shooting in natural light, less of a cast than Cokin filters, easily correctable but takes an extra moment in Raw processing. The diagonally cut corners make this filter easier to insert into filter holder, but do cut down your maximum wide angle view before they become visible in frame (around 19-21mm 35mm equivalent). The filter also only comes in a cheap plastic sleeve, so plan on owning a filter wallet or pouch to carry these around in. Overall a very nice filter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price I bought this filter to test out ND/GND filters and now I'm hooked. For the price it can't be beat. In the future I may purchase Lee/Singh-Ray since I know those are optically better but for my amateur use these filters work great for now. The slight negatives are that they do cast a warm color which can be pretty easily fixed in post-processing and they tend to get dirty a bit quickly if you're not careful. However, it's a small price to pay if you're just getting into using these filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Formatt Hitech 10 stop ND filter I used this right away. It arrived in a timely manner and packaged securely from bhphoto. Once the ND filter arrived, I took it to the beach to test it out. I shot at mid -day, partly cloudy skies . F/11, iso 50 , 2-5 seconds of exposure (depending on how much ambient light was available, ie : shade etc. ) The Formatt Hitech filter, performed very well. It allowed me to keep an F/11 which kept my photo to be extremely sharp, instead of F/18+ which softens the image a bit. This in turn resulted in a high quality slow exposure shot, with the desirable silky water look. I can't imagine what I can do with it at sunset or in lower light settings. I believe there is a slight color cast towards warms, which I noticed with my other Formatt Hitech Nd filter as well. However this is not a game changer if you shoot in raw. The ND filter also came in a protective sleeve, and is well priced for the quality of product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality Good optical quality, no fog towards the sun. But there is greenish color when using with it, need some post processing, the performance is good that it reduces the shutter speed from 1/4000 to 1/400 which is very good indeed

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for most I like to use ND filters for slower shutter speeds and this provides exactly that! Inexpensive filter that gets the job done, but as with most ND filters there is a color cast that is easily removed with photoshop.
