Canon SX530 HS overview

  • 1Description

Combining an expansive zoom lens, high-resolution imaging sensor, and extensive sharing capabilities, the PowerShot SX530 HS is a versatile and convenient point-and-shoot digital camera from Canon. A 16MP High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4+ image processor pair to form the HS SYSTEM, to achieve notable image clarity, especially in dim and difficult lighting conditions, sensitivity to ISO 3200, and a high speed burst rate of 10 fps. Complementing working in a wide variety of situations, a 50x zoom lens provides a 24-1200mm equivalent focal length range, which is further benefitted by Intelligent IS image stabilization to ensure sharp and clear imaging. Beyond shooting capabilities, the SX530 HS is also wirelessly adept, with the ability to transfer imagery directly to mobile devices via Wi-Fi, connect using NFC, and remotely control the camera from linked smartphones or tablets.

Full HD 1080/30p video recording is also supported in addition to still shooting, and easily accessible via a dedicated movie button. Benefitting working with distant moving subjects, Zoom Framing Assist helps to maintain focus and composition when working at longer focal lengths. Hybrid Auto, Smart AUTO, and Creative Shot modes are all available to refine the look of imagery, and a 3.0" 461k-dot LCD screen is incorporated into the ergonomic design for live view monitoring and image playback. Additionally, the SX530 HS is compatible with the optional Connect Station CS100 for automated wireless backing-up, storing, and sharing imagery.

16MP CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 4+ Image Processor
The 16MP High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor produces high-resolution imagery that, when paired with the DIGIC 4+ image processor, exhibits notable clarity and sensitivity to ISO 3200, as well as a top continuous shooting rate of 10 fps. The sensor and processor work together to create Canon's HS SYSTEM, which is able to produce clear, rich imagery in dimly-lit situations with minimal noise and vivid detail.

Beyond still image recording, the SX530 is also capable of recording full HD 1080p video at 30 fps, which is easily accessible via a dedicated movie button.
50x Optical Zoom Lens
Covering wide-angle to super telephoto perspectives, the 50x optical zoom lens provides a 24-1200mm equivalent focal length range to suite working in nearly any situation. Intelligent IS image stabilization benefits this extensive reach, as well as when working in difficult lighting conditions, by compensating for camera shake for sharper, clearer imagery. Eight distinct stabilization modes are available to best suit different types of shooting:

Stills:
  • Normal IS corrects for a wide range of common camera movements.
  • Panning IS detects deliberate panning movements and does not compensate for lateral movements to permit desired camera movements.
  • Macro (Hybrid) IS corrects for shift-type camera shake that commonly occurs when working with close-up subject matter.
  • Tripod is a dedicated setting that automatically deactivates IS when the use of a tripod is detected since camera-based stabilization is not needed.

Video:
  • Dynamic IS is well-suited to recording at wide-angle focal lengths and reduces unwanted shaking that typically occurs when walking while recording.
  • Powered IS compensates for hand movements that become more visually discernable when working at the telephoto end of the zoom range.
  • Macro (Hybrid) IS minimizes the appearance of shake when walking as well as compensates for shift-type shake that occurs when working with close-up subject matter.
  • Active Tripod IS minimizes the slight amount of shake that can happen when recording video while using a tripod.
Built-In Wi-Fi with NFC and CS100 Compatibility
Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity enables seamless and instant transferring of photos and videos to mobile devices, home computers, and to select social networking sites. Linking Android devices to the camera is aided through the incorporation of NFC (Near Field Communication), which facilitates connection simply by tapping the two devices together. Additionally, linked mobile devices can also be used to remotely control and release the camera's shutter and display a live view image on the linked device's screen when using the Canon CameraWindow app.

Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity further provide compatibility with the optional Connect Station CS100 for automated wireless transferring and sharing of files.
Other Camera Features
  • A 3.0" 461k-dot LCD monitor is available for live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation.
  • High Speed AF utilizes updated algorithms and technologies to benefit subject tracking and overall focusing accuracy and speed.
  • Zoom Framing Assist automatically zooms in or out to keep a subject within the frame and in focus when using longer telephoto focal lengths.
  • Creative Shot modes help to transform your original imagery into creative and unique works using a system of 46 in-camera filters, which are grouped within Retro, Monochrome, Special, and Natural categories Once the original image has been taken, the camera will automatically produce five additional variations using this series of filters.
  • Hybrid Auto will record short video clips prior to recording a still image, and then automatically compile them into one file to produce a highlight reel of a shooting session.
  • Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper camera settings based on recognized shooting situations.

Canon SX530 HS reviews

PowerShot SX530 HS Digital Camera is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zoom with clarity Bought this camera last May (2016). Took a lot of pictures in Myrtle Beach, Cape Hatteras and Ogunquit Beach. Could not believe the sharpness of my photos. The normal zoom photos were excellent, but even most of my photos using the digital zoom were very good. This is a remarkable little camera. The only complaint I have is the lack of a viewfinder. In bright sun it's a little problematic for me, even with the LCD set at the highest setting, but I'm used to a viewfinder, so I may be part of the problem. If you want a super zoom camera for a reasonable price, this is the one, slam dunk, hands down and I own a number of long zoom bridge cameras like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my PowerShot by Canon I bought this camera because I dropped my digital camera about a year ago and my iphone takes petty lame photos and only when it is not full. I wanted to take pictures of BIRDS. The zoom is excellent. I can get pictures where the bird completely fills the frame, in focus even through a snow storm. The one drawback, that I read about before I purchased, is that the camera can be turned on inadvertently in it's case. This has resulted in my going to take a picture and finding my camera dead. I am going to carry a spare battery, but in the mean time have had luck by leaving the camera strap hanging out of the edge of the zipped camera bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera The features on this camera are great for what I am using it for. The buttons are not difficult to work with (which I have had problems with on other cameras). Overall, I love the features of this camera. I will say setting up the wifi was aggravating. The instructions did not work, and I am lucky that I have some knowledge to make it happen. The app for the phone in the instructions is not the app that I ended up using; the way I had to get it working on my laptop was nowhere near what the instructions said. Now that it's set up, it's not a problem. I love the fact that there are no cords (especially since I tend to lose them all the time). Overall great product for a basic photographer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My PowerShot SX530 Purchased this camera to take along on a busy and moving day-to-day week long vacation and use in situations where I would not want to take along my Canon 60D. The little guy performed excellent inside a major metropolitan U.S. city, on crowded streets, at a MLB ballpark taking action shots, street scape photos as well as travel and scenic shots during our constant moving around the metro area. The PowerShot performed excellent in bight and dim light situations at several museums where flash could not be used and I was awed by the battery life! Another fine Canon camera to add to my already bulging Canon lineup! Don't let the size of this PowerShot influence your decision as the images are awesome!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zoom zoom baby I've owned this camera for seven months now and used it on multiple hikes and camping trips. Taken excellent pictures of the moon and far off places miles away. The wi-fi makes it easy to transfer photos to a smartphone for fast sharing. I've never owned a camera like this. Even my mother was jealous with her older Rebel. 9/10 because i wanted a camera to take pictures of stars and the milky way but after traveling into the boonies, which is easy here in Montana, I couldn't even get one star to show up let alone the milky way which was Very visible. AND not as versatile as an SLR. but i'm a noob and people love my pictures anyway so i'm very happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Pleased with this Purchase This is a step up from my SX130 which I loved until the USB port failed. I've just had the 530 for a couple of days, but its familiar territory. Best improvements? The sharpness of a full-out telephoto shot without a tripod...or a monopod even. The WiFi connection taught me to read directions through before I start instead of as I go, but the result is fantastic - no cords. Only improvements I'd suggest are: add a cord that will charge the battery while its in the camera and put GPS inside. Having the locations added to the pics would be a great improvement, esp for outdoor types.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Size Wanted more zoom than the 12mm camera I already have. The 50mm is great for this size camera which I can fit into a larger purse than I normally carry. I do have a problem getting a good focus in the digital zoom as I find the lighter weight cameras are hard to hold steady so I use a tripod for the digital. My pictures have been very clear with the optical zoom and am overall very pleased with the Canon sx530. Really like being able to transfer the pictures to my smartphone. Thank you Canon for making a Camera this size with a 50mm zoom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from video - zoom lens - point and shoot I have had this camera a couple of months now. I have not used a point and shoot in several years. I wanted a camera that my 17 year old could easily master. I have been playing with it for I am used to an EOS. As with anything patience is the trick and a bit of fooling with it.... The clarity of shots is amazing as well as the zoom, it does take a little practice to figure out how to super zoom and not have a bad shot. The video quality is also perfect. For those folks that love a viewfinder as I do... this is not that bad... it takes a little adjustment.
