HP Z27x Reviews

HDLink signal not supported on this monitor

HdLink not supported when trying to convert the signal from YUV to RGB,. HP said this monitor can support YUV signal, but the colors looks bad and not accurate when receiving YUV signal from Blackmagicdesign card ver HDMI or SDI to HDMI mini converter and as i said, HDLink sending no signal over DP, trying to ask BM support but they said, ask HP and HP support send me to ask BM. sadly i will be moving this monitor to be a computer monitor and get Eizo or something else.

Don't believe the trolls

This monitor isn't perfect. But the claims made about how bad this unit is are simply overblown. We have or had Eizos, Ikegamis, JVCs, NECS FSI and Boland. Only he FSIsa re better with uniformity, but they have a blue cast in the blacks. The pictures posted are obviouisly way overexposed. WE have 15 of these units and only one comes anything close to being objectionable in uniformity. There is no better display under $3K.

Worst Professional product available

I'm changing my review from 2 to 1 star. I have returned the monitor 9 times with HP and EVERY single unit had an issue. The most prominent being extremely bad uniformity, washed out blacks, sharpening artifacts, color shift based on the screen's content, and bad calibration. It's been 10 months since my first unit so if I was actually using this for my career, I would be out of work for 10 months. As a business product, this is the worst level of quality you could get. I assume anyone of DreamWorks wouldn't touch this thing with a 10 foot pole.

MASSIVE Backlight Bleed Issues

The z27x series has massive quality control issues. Just received my third unit, and it's the worst one yet, exhibiting extreme uniformity issues. The first had a small scratch, beneath the panel, about a half-inch long, plus mild backlight bleed. Second unit had extremely bad IPS glow in the upper left corner, though relatively ok uniformity. The third, and most recent unit, has MAJOR uniformity issues, with both light leakage and the dreaded IPS glow -- see attached images. For a display intended for color critical work, this sort of performance is absolutely unacceptable. Unfortunately, I desperately need a display capable of the Rec 709 colorspace without breaking the bank, so will likely try again with unit number 4, as it seems my current unit is abnormally bad -- it seems, however, at least some backlight bleed and IPS glow are bound to crop up on virtually all units, however.

Awesome monitor if you're using the DisplayPort

This is a great monitor for color accurate video work - as long as you are using the DisplayPort. Detail and color looks great. I tested the HDMI and it looked horrible - details were strangle over-sharpened, missing contrast etc. etc. HDMI is not usable if you're trying to get a pleasing or color accurate image. Great product for the price!

Don't use HDMI....you should be using Displayport because it is 10bit and use a quality videocard to run it...ie Quadro card that outputs 10bit.

not as expected

i got this screen to use for editing and color grading monitor. calibrated to REC 709 using Dreamcolor calibration solution and connected using HDMI cable. but the red channel saturation is over the limit and not accurate. im not sure if i need an SDI to HDMI converter and dont want to spend more money just to test. im trying to contact HP and seems they don't have enough support Staff , live chat always off and no answer for my email. seems this screen going to sit on my disk as the most expensive computer screen i ever got :( never buy this monitor, its worthless and not pro at all.

Big but lots of aliasing

I was given this monitor to test by our company's IT department and it fell far short of expectations. I am a motion graphics animator for them and a professional photographer outside of my full time job. The only way to connect this monitor to my MacBook Pro 15 was HDMI and the quality, especially given the price, was very underwhelming. There was a lot of aliasing even at full resolution though it was reduced by a bit at the higher resolution. It was very visible at 1080. I found this to be very distracting and it was not a pleasant screen to work on. There are not a lot of on monitor controls aside from brightness and preset styles. On the positive side, I used ColorMunki to calibrate it and the color rendition was very accurate and had a good range of brightness.

HP's March 2017 firmware added direct support for the retail version of the X-Rite i1Display Pro color calibration device. Has this been verified as working? (I already have the i1D Pro, and would consider purchasing the Z27x if I knew it was compatible.)

I'm afraid this monitor only displays a 2560 X 1440 resolution so it will not support 4k.

Is this a touch monitor?

This is a Fantastic Monitor for the price to performance output I do not think their is a better line of monitor for post production workflow weather your color correction in resolve or composting elements in nuke or After Effects or just plane old editing. We have all experience color shift or color space problems it we be great if all monitors were created equal but their not the Dream Color line is wonderfully true even with cross platform workflow. I use this monitor for booth PC and Mac with cross platforms applications integration and it has been spot on ever time. The HP z27x is a step in tomorrow color accurate monitor, supporting 2020 color space as well as begin able to be calibrated to match the rest of your shop spec monitors, I am not so fortunate or could afford to pay for some one to calibrate all my workstations. This beauty straight out of the box right to work, easy button navigation easy set up with both Mac and PC select your color space on your monitor and computer display port. I was stunned how easy it was to use. HP Dream Color you have earned my business trust. I have owned many different monitors over the last 20yrs. This is hands down my favorite monitor, for ease of use, to being at the right point, to superior quality in booth color and image sharpness. I will be buying a few more very soon.
