DJI H4-3D overview

  • 1Description

One of the biggest obstacles to capturing polished video from a multi-rotor RC aircraft is camera shake. Wind turbulence buffets the aircraft, and even on a still day there is always rotor-incurred vibration to contend with. If you are recording with the GoPro HERO4 Black and using a multi-rotor with a DJI flight controller installed, the Zenmuse H4-3D Gimbal is the solution. This 3-axis, brushless motor gimbal corrects for pitch and roll, and allows for tilting of -130° to +45°. It can power from the flight battery, and for Phantom 2 installations uses the aircraft's integrated GCU. An optional GCU is available separately for other models. The H4-3D is compatible with the A2, WooKong-M, Naza‐M, Naza‐M V2, and Phantom 2 flight control systems.

The H4-3D arrives pre-calibrated for the GoPro HERO4 Black camera - once installed, no additional configuration steps are required

Note: The H4-3D is specifically balanced for the GoPro HERO4 Black -- it will not work with the HERO3, HERO3+, or HERO4 Silver
Aircraft Compatibility
The H4-3D works out-of-the-box with the Phantom 2 as the Phantom 2 features a built-in gimbal control unit (GCU). In addition, it can be used with many other aircraft when combined with an independent GCU module (available separately). The gimbal can be used with multi-rotors that have the following flight control systems:
  • A2
  • WooKong-M
  • NAZA-M
  • NAZA-M V2

Note: The NAZA‐M LITE is not supported. Additionally, the NAZA‐M V2 PMU must be used if using a NAZA‐M V1 flight controller
Independent IMU
The inertial measurement unit (IMU) is essential for the gimbal to be able to stabilize the camera. It senses motion, using this data to instruct the servo motors which direction to move. For maximum precision, this data gets updated every millisecond
Firmware Updatable
As software updates get released, DJI will make them available to end users in the form of free firmware updates. Simply connect the H4-3D to a computer running the assistant software
Optional GCU Module
For use in aircraft that - unlike the Phantom 2 - do not have integrated GCUs, an optional GCU (gimbal control unit) is available separately

DJI H4-3D reviews

Zenmuse H4-3D Gimbal for GoPro HERO4 Black is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product. Easy Install I was hesitant to buy the product as I had heard that it needed several hours of installation and configuration. I had also read that you needed to drill a hole on the case of the Drone. Well, I have the Phantom 2 V2.0; installation was 4 screws, connect the provided cable to the cables already installed on the outside of the drone and voila...done. The only configuration needed was to connect the drone to the computer, and with the software provided by DJI for the drone adjust the levels of movement for the gimbal. No need for drilling, cabling etc. Easy install ....outstanding product. Shots are unbelieably stable

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the money. The only thing good about this gimbal is the fact that it is plug and play. In any wind conditions it seems to fail. Only on a calm day will this gimbal be usable. DJI gives the worst customer support when it comes to updates or repairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than H3-3D for GoPro Hero 4 I bought this gimbal after using a Zenmuse H3-3D for a while with a gopro hero 4 black. The H3-3D worked fine but had quite some jello and the camera was tilted to the side most of the time. I can say that the new H4-3D is more adapted. I could see that the very first time I mounted the camera in the gimbal. It was completely balanced, no more tilting. And yes, the jello is gone (my first flight with it showed no jello at all)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gimbal.its the same than H3-3d but designed for hero4 I had the H3-3d gimbal on my phantom 2 when i use it for the hero 3 cmera. I wanted to upgrade the camera to the Hero4 and saw some videos how to adapt the H3-3d for the new camera. It implies to drill some parts, nothing really complicated but after a crash, the gimbal was not as good to keep using it. So i bought the H4-3D, actually, there is nothing like to have something made for the right thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfectly steady Perfect stabilization in normal flight conditions. Pilot/cemeraman shall be aware that when in great vertical accelerations, propellers will be seen on screen, specially with wide and mid angle Gopro lens. This is the second unit we buy. Warranty was perfectly honored by DJI after Phantom lost control and crashed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work very well with Hero4 Had a H3-3D and tried to use it with the Hero4. There are those online that tell you it works. Well sort of. While it worked most of the time, mine often glitched when the Phantom was moving fast or under strong wind conditions. With the H4-3D, these problems went away, and it is smoother as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooooth no problems with this product as of now, all I had to do was attach it and it was good to go. it automatically adapted to my previous H3-3d gimbal settings. and no update needed. so far its seems perfect, smooth, correct horizon line. good to go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't buy the phantom without it Sophisticated and compact gimbal design. I work in a Voc Tech and when I showed this off to the electronics engineers, they were amazed at how efficient and compact the design is. Very smooth motion. Don't buy the phantom without it.
