Senal SCM-660 Overview

The SCM-660 from Senal is a professional-grade, multi-pattern, true condenser microphone that features a large 1.3" gold-plated transducer element. The microphone offers a full, rich tone, making it an ideal choice for studio recording, broadcasting, podcasting, or live recording. With an SPL handling of 140 dB, the SCM-600 captures vocals and instruments accurately and with pristine clarity.

With three selectable polar patterns, cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8, the SCM-660 is capable of a wide range of miking techniques and configurations. In addition, the onboard -10 dB attenuation pad optimizes signal levels, and the integrated 80 Hz high-pass filter rolls off unwanted low-frequency noise and rumble when recording.

Built with all-metal construction, the microphone comes with a suspension shockmount with additional suspension bands to reduce unwanted vibrations. A rugged aluminum carry case, a protective pouch, and a 5/8" threaded adapter are also included.

Dual 1.3" Diaphragm
The Senal SCM-660 uses a large dual gold-plated diaphragm that is 1.3ʺ in diameter. It is tailored for a superior frequency response with a wide dynamic range
Selectable Polar Pattern
The microphone's polar pattern is selectable from cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8. It offers greater flexibility in a variety of recording applications
High-Pass Filter
The high-pass filter switch delivers roll-off for unwanted frequencies below 80 Hz that are associated with low-frequency noises and rumble, which can also degrade your recording
Attenuation Pad
A -10 dB attenuation pad prevents distortion when recording loud sounds such as cymbals and electric guitar cabinets
140 dB Maximum Sound-Pressure Level
To get optimal signal level without compromising the original audio source, this microphone handles a maximum SPL of 140 dB
Rugged All-Metal Construction
The SCM-660 is built with an all-metal construction that maintains an overall high standard of durability. A hard-shelled case is also included, is suitable for storage, and provides protection when taking the SCM-660 on the road

Would this mic work in a large group of 15 people arranged in a circle with this mic in the center of the circle? Or do the players have to be within a foot of the mic?
Asked by: Charles
While this mic has an omni-directional pickup pattern option and could pick up sound 360 degrees around it, however distant those people are from the mic is how it would sound. As well, you would certainly pick up a large amount of room noise. Typically, for a quality recording you would want the source of the audio to be no more than 12'' from the mic itself.

How does this microphone compare to Sennheiser ...

How does this microphone compare to Sennheiser MK8 and Neumann TLM 102 & 107?
Asked by: James
All four mics are large diaphragm condenser style with a frequency response range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The Senal SCM-660, Sennheiser MK 8, and Neumann TLM 107 offer multiple patterns to pick up audio from different directions, while the TLM 102 is cardioid only. The SCM-660 offers three patterns (cardioid, figure-8, omnidirectional) while the MK 8 and TLM 107 offer five patterns (cardioid, figure-8, omnidirectional, supercardioid, subcardioid/wide cardioid) for accommodating a wider variety of applications.

The "Key Features" at the top say Max SPL = 140db, but the Specs say it is 130db. Which is correct?
Asked by: Rajnesh
The published specification is correct for the Senal SCM-660 Large-Diaphragm Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone (BH # SESCM660). It is 130 dB, but will be 140 dB with the -10 dB pad engaged. See the page 10 of the user guide here: https://bhpho.to/3WFcOhz.

question

Will it plug into SLR's (Nikons)?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Senal SCM-660 will not plug into SLR's. You'll need a mixer or interface box to do so; i.e. B&H# SOMIXPRED, AZFMX22.
