Although the HERO3 uses the same bus connector, this Battery Eliminator is only compatible with the HERO4.

Works good, cable too long

Tested in timelapse mode with Hero 4 and powerbank 10000 mA, it works with/without camera's battery for 6-7 hours. The cable is too long for my tasks, so one star deducted.

Not enough juice

Doesn't provide enough juice to record 4k on its own. It still needs a battery & drains the battery. It increases the battery life when recording 4k & provides enough power for the wifi. Don't plug USB & the battery eliminator in simultaneously or it might blow up from a ground loop.

Does Switronics offer a battery eliminator for a gopro hero+

There are three recommended ways to power the GoPro Hero+. They are the GoPro Portable Power Pack B&H # GOPPPACK and the GoPro Wall Charger for GoPro Cameras B&H # GOWC and the USB port of a powered computer.

Just to double check, the battery eliminator will not work if there is a battery in the camera? Ideally I'd like to use this as a battery extender for a pretty specific application, but is that impossible?

Yes, remove the internal battery then use this Battery Eliminator.

Will this work with GoPro 3+?

I've not tried it on a 3+. You should use the Switronix #DV-GP3 for the 3 models. It is actually better because it replaces the battery itself rather than plugging into to back of the camera, leaving this socket free for other accessories. Below should be the link
