Aputure AL-H160 Reviews

Very good value for money

Very practical, compact size, durable (keep the plastic cover on the front in order to avoid scratches) and can be combined by stacking one on top of the other. Power consumption is moderate. We've used about seven or eight of the Amaram AL-H160 so far and had troubles with only one, and that also only due to melting batteries that ruined the plastic interior (no fault with the product itself).

Good, but does not dim very low

Great CRI and decent brightness for 160 bulbs. But it does not dim as low as others I have (that were less). There are times I need this for fill in REALLY dark places, and it's important to be able to go super low on power. Id guess this one to have about a three stop range. My others have more like a six stop range.

Good Product At A Great Price

I purchased the AL-H160 to use as an additional LED light for tight areas and close ups. It worked out great providing just the right amount of light for fill or as a highlight. I also like that it can be simply used with AA batteries or a Sony battery pack.

Great product for the price

Great light, beautiful color, but cheap mount, and also I really wish the filters were magnetic, they work fine, but it's just not as easy as the magnetic kind. Also it does not dim as low as I would like. It's not 0-100% it's like 10-100% and 10 is sometimes already too bright. I also have the 198, but got this one hoping for a little less brightness at the bottom. I also expected a smaller size but was very surprised they were the same size light, just less leds in this one. Crazy!

Very Bright

Extremely bright and nicely constructed. I like that additional lights can be purchased and connected together should a letter bank of them be needed.

Powerful Light at great price

We bought this to replace our old z96 which is almost exactly identical to this Amaran one. What's great? : The output is bright but also dimmable. Supplied diffusers (tungsten & frosted). Good CRI for relatively cast free light. Ability to put it on a hot shoe, light stand or gang lights together. Takes AAs or Sony batteries. The bad?: Nothing really. I'm not really sure why people buy $$$ lights when they can have this for a fraction of the cost with equal or better output. Don't waste your money on higher priced lights. Just get a couple of these. I would have given it 5 stars but I would light to see a couple more modifiers like barn doors or snoots ;)

Can only the batteries listed in the accessories be used? What about np-f975? (it said 'NP series' so I figured...
Asked by: Nesanel
All NP-F batteries that we've been using work perfectly fine (570, 770 and 970).
