    UDI RC U818A reviews

UDU818A-1 Discovery Quadcopter with HD Camera (Blue) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from UDU818A-1 lots of fun Got this drone for my 10-year-old son for Christmas. The instructions were written in dauntingly poor English, but the drone itself was easy to fly not withstanding. It heartily survived its maiden voyage landings and collisions with trees, cars, mailboxes, etc. Per expectation, the batteries do not last very long (5-10 minutes). If you're going to buy a drone, you might as well invest in 4 or 5 spare batteries. (We only got one spare and the fun was over before we were ready to quit.) The other reviews said it would have a tough time in light winds. The only problem we had was flying up wind. Nice entry level fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good fun for this level quad I have read tons of reviews about how bad this quadcopter performs outside with any wind. Well, although wind and even the A/C (when I fly inside) will push/pull/move this flyer I have no issues controlling it. Makes it more fun for me, I love to fly. When I take still shots with the camera, they can be blurry when taken inside, but the video is clear inside or out. It took me about ten flights to switch to mode 2 and I fly outside in 6mph winds all the time. It is durable. Has not broke after many crashes into walls. The only downfalls for this product are 5 minute flight time. I purchased and extra battery and would recommend having at least 2 on hand. Bottom line, this flyer is fun and durable. I have used this to film my roof and attic vents for corrosion as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price Very easy setup and pretty durable drone. This drone seems like a great beginner flier for anyone looking to get into quad flying. Flying in the wind is impossible though so you'll have to wait for a calm day to fly outdoors. For indoors, I find it is a bit too big. Battery life could be longer as well. I get about 6 minutes of continuous fly time with the camera running and slightly more without. Overall I would say this is a very good buy for the money and would have no problem recommending it to others in the market for an entry level drone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing - perfect gift This was a Christmas gift for my boyfriend - he always talked about wanting a drone but had never operated one. After doing a ton of my own research I found this one and had read nothing but good reviews from multiple sources. I took a chance and purchased it. He was ecstatic about it and immediately opened it. Upon opening one of the four lights would only work here and there. 5 months later it still works great! We still have issues with the light but he has crashed it many times. While at the lake, the wind took the drone, it was submerged in water for about 10 minutes and still worked great! This is perfect for anyone who is looking for a recreational drone. The camera is not the best but it does record and take video. Battery life also is not great but extra batteries are inexpensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Beginner Drone Bought this to see if a quadcopter would be a useful thing for our video department. Based on the UDU818A-1 I think a quadcopter would, just not this one. Don't get this if you think you'll be pulling down those beautiful videos you see on GoPro spots - but if you want to learn the fundamentals of flying one of these, this strikes me as a good, inexpensive, durable starter craft. It's a great way to see how limited a drone can be, how hard basic videography can be with one, and the joy of crashing. A lot of crashing. VideoThe video is not good. Yes, it's HD - 720, so barely ok for web and non-broadcast. You'll see a lot of flicker - I'm no engineer, but it seems like interference from the motors. I get horizontal waves in the video. You'll do everything in post - white balance, color correct - anything to get it to look decent. There are no camera controls at all. Think first gen cell phone. The video records to a 4GB micro SD card and the format is .avi. Macs will convert it through QuickTime to an .mov file and that takes a while. Fortunately, the files aren't huge because you're severely limited by battery life. BatteriesThe battery is a stick of gum size lithium poly that lasts about 5 minutes with the camera running. If you buy this quadcopter - order extra batteries. Just do it. You need them to get enough flight time to even learn how to fly it. And get an extra charger - most are cheap Chinese trinkets, but they can at least add a port or two. Takes about 3 hours to get that 5 minutes of battery charged. FlyingI'd never flown anything other than paper airplanes. My RC experience was toy cars and ZIpZaps as a kid. Flying is hard. Ask a bird. Takes a good amount of time to learn and there no real hints or instructions - you pretty much have to just dive in. There are a few videos out there - most are guys wanting their own TV shows and not really intended for intro to flying. Just play with it. It's very durable and handles crashes well. There's no stability control and it feels very touchy at first. Any wind will drive you indoors. I'm shooting in a warehouse and the HVAC blows this around. But with time and patience you'll get it. I'm hopeful it will become more stable with practice and that's exactly why you should get one. Practice. Then, spend $ on the Phantom that shoots 4K and will fly back to you by itself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Drone - Battery Life is a killer! This Done flies very well and hovers pretty well. This drone is a lot of fun and I would recommend it as a beginners drone. This will let you know if drone flying is something you want to do. The Camera and Videos are good but they are not great. If you want to take a video of your flight, Avg flight time will be 3 to 4 minutes before controllers start beeping at you and telling you the Drone is running low on battery. I would highly recommend having 2 or 3 batteries so you can make the trip to the park or wherever you are going to fly worthwhile. For $, This is a good drone. If you are looking for another good drone, The Syma x5c is a good drone in the same price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for beginners! This is a great drone for beginners. Before buying the U818A-1, I've never had experience flying one. The controls are fairly easy to pick up. Just be sure you have plenty of room because you'll be crashing a lot! I've managed to crash this thing pretty badly on a number of occasions and this this held up pretty nicely. It has a bunch of scratches but is extremely durable for the most part. The built in camera is not bad either... it films at 720P and is more than enough to get great aerial shots. Overall this thing is extremely fun to fly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with my purchase Put in 4 batteries in transmitter, plugged battery into quadcopter and started flying in no time. It's easy to fly and good size to use indoors. Outdoors it's cool to see how high it goes but I recommend a big yard. If it's windy it does make it harder to control, almost went into neighbors yard. I have not tried taking pics yet but I did try video. Video is good but obviously you're going to hear loud noise from propellors. Gives about 10-15 of fly time on charge. I can't wait for better weather so I can take it to park and fly it as high as possible. You can buy extra batteries*n so you can fly longer.
