    Bodelin Technologies PS-EDU-100 reviews

PS-EDU-100 ProScope EDU USB Digital Handheld Microscope (Black) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A handy USB Magnifier and Capture device This was my 2nd purchase of the 'Bodelin' PS-EDU-100 USB Microscope; I returned the PS-EDU-100 because I found that my Gateway NX860S running Windows7 SP1 would not consistently, recognize the PS-EDU-100 in Windows7's Device Manager; it would most, often be recognized as an 'Unknown Device'. Now, hard for me to understand, my other laptop, a Gateway MX6121, also, running Windows7 SP1, had no such problem, and was recognized each and every time it was connected. Using the PS-EDU-100 with my Gateway NX860S also, had a problem showing an image in the Microcapture Pro software, the image viewing program included with the PS-EDU-100. When the PS-EDU-100 was recognized there would be no image displayed in Microcapture Pro, only, a black view. I do not know what inspired / motivated me to try plugging in a 'USB patch cable' a short, about 6 inch length chosen randomly, type A, male / female, USB cable, which I custom made, into the one and only USB port which would recognize the PS-EDU-100 on my Gateway NX860S, but this allowed an image to be displayed in Microcapture Pro. Again, the Gateway MX6121 did not have this problem, and would display an image without this 'patch cable'. I liked the fact that by purchasing a OTG Host Adapter and going to the 'Google App Store' and downloading the 'UsbWebCamera' app to my Samsung Galaxy S4 I was able to use the PS-EDU-100 on it; which worked without any 'tweaks' as my Gateway laptop required. Because a solution was not found to be able to use the PS-EDU-100 on my Gateway laptop without the 'tweaks', and particularly, because it would not, or could not, be recognized consistently by my laptop, (I had even, done a complete re-install of Windows7, because of an un-related reason, during the time I had the PS-EDU-100, and once Windows7 re-obtained SP1 and re-obtained all of the other 'Updates', there was still, no improvement in the PS-EDU-100 being recognized consistently); I decided to return the PS-EDU-100 for a refund. I tried to find a USB Microscope to replace the PS-EDU-100 that I had returned, but was unable to find one that would allow me to use it on my 'Android Device', and/or one that I felt confident would not present the same problems that I had encountered with the PS-EDU-100. I decided that I would purchase the 'Bodelin' PS-EDU-100 USB Microscope again, as I missed being able to view the interesting things that I found possible to view with the PS-EDU-100; when it was recognized on my laptop, and on my Android device. I found, for some unexplainable reason, which I am not complaining about, that the 'Bodelin' PS-EDU-100 USB Microscope now, is recognized consistently, using that same single, USB port, on my Gateway NX860S laptop; was it because it was a different PS-EDU-100?. I still, have to use that 'USB patch cable' in order to get an image in the Microcapture Pro software; and I am still, able to use it with my 'Android Device', using the UsbWebCamera app. The Microcapture Pro software displays an image well, and can capture a still image, using the software or the button on the side of the dial that is on the PS-EDU-100's cord, which also, controls the (8) LED lights, and a video image. The (8) LED lights illuminate the subject being viewed, well; sometimes 'washing out' the subject though, at higher intensity settings. Microcapture Pro offers a Timer for length of video recording and has an option to the view image in 'full screen'. I have not had the PS-EDU-100 long enough to find it necessary to use the calibration/measurement and/or image editing part of the Microcapture Pro software. The Image Preview, the editing part of Microcapture Pro, offers Drawing, Notation, Measurement and Calibration functions. I found that 'Bodelin Technologies' Free ProScope HR software and Optional Measurement Software can also, be used for image viewing with the PS-EDU-100. The stand that the PS-EDU-100 comes with is handy and satisfactory; it can adjust the PS-EDU-100 vertically using lockable/resistance adjustable, knobs, and it can be manually, adjusted up and down the length of the stand's post, and secured with a thumb screw. The PS-EDU-100 can also, be raised or lowered within its holder and locked in that position with a thumb screw. The Focus adjustment on the PS-EDU-100 works well in fine tuning the focus after raising or lowering the PS-EDU-100 via the knobs to adjust the PS-EDU-100's holder, and/or raising or lowering the PS-EDU-100's holder on the stand's post. There is a small amount of movement in the holder and the holder's vertical adjustment when focusing, but careful, slight, slow adjustment allows for this small movement to be tolerable. Being just, a Techie hobbyist and not a 'professional', I found the 'Bodelin' PS-EDU-100 USB Microscope satisfactory for my 'non-techinical' / 'non-professional' magnification needs and interests.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good USB Scope I bought this due to the stand and the ability to move the microscope head relative to the sample and hold without shaking. The magnification is not quite what I would like, but for the most part shows sufficient detail on smaller cross sections of feathers and fur to satisfy my needs. I had two of the eight LED lights not working, contacted the manufacturer and they promptly replaced the head unit. Very impressed with the customer service of Bodelin.
