ZEISS 523206-9906-000 overview

  • 1Description

Zeiss's 10x32 Terra ED Binocular combines SCHOTT ED extra low-dispersion glass elements and a compact weather-sealed housing to create a multi-purpose optic that delivers the image quality and streamlined silhouette for birders and hunters a set of smaller glasses that do not sacrifice twilight performance or functionality. At the core of Terra ED are fully multicoated optical surfaces designed to eliminate chromatic aberration, maximize light transmission and render contrast-rich images. They also boast the ability to focus down to 5 feet, allowing observers to get up close to the bird or other nearby subject of interest. Thanks to the space-saving Schmidt-Pechan roof prism design and lightweight composite housing, this binocular weighs just over a pound.

Complementing the high-transmission optical path and modest form factor, the Terra ED has a nitrogen-filled housing that provides fogproof performance and has been tested to withstand submersion to 100 mbar of pressure. This water and fogproof performance, coupled with a broad operating temperature range, enables these binoculars to stand up to almost any outdoor observational situation. A textured center focus wheel and twist-up rubber eyecups supply additional handling features that enhance the overall ergonomics and help make it a full-featured binocular for close to mid-range use.

ZEISS 523206-9906-000 reviews

10x32 Terra ED Binocular is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Optically great functionally not so great. Very good sharpness, brightness, and contrast. They feel good and comfortable in hand and reasonably light. I like the close focus aspect. The focus dial seems a bit stiff but should improve a bit over time. Oops! No case. Oops! No strap. The velvet String pull bag that came with them seems an afterthought. I'm not a hunter or a birder so I don't care to dress in my binoculars using the harness that came with them. The eyepiece cover is ok but the objective cover needs to be held in place, if possible, when putting them away. I thus have a case and strap on order. The binoculars are very good, the accessories that came with them seem lacking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing binoculars I'm a professional photographer but also a puma tracker at Torres del Paine for about 15 years. I needed a small but bright binoculars to find this elusive cat...when I received the binoculars I was impressed with the weight...very light. Optically...they are not like a US2000 model, but for only US 400 they are impressively bright and sharp. 100% recommendable... Rodrigo Moraga

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Quality Binoculars for the Price My reviews take price into consideration. For the price, these are 5 Star all the way. I love a 10x32 bin, but it's hard to find good ones below the alpha level. I have @ 2 dozen pair of bins evenly divided between best in class price no object and best value in class for the price. These are the best binoculars I own in the value class by a longshot. I have compared them extensively against my Swarovski Swarovision 10x32 and Leica 10x32 Ultravid HD Plus. This Terra delivers @ 90 per cent of the optical performance of the top of the line Swaro or Leica at one fifth of the price. No noticeable CA even under tough conditions. Very accurate and nicely saturated colors. Good depth of field for a compact 10x32. Focusing knob and diopter function flawlessly. These are noticeably smaller and lighter than the Swaro 10x32 but not as small as the Leica. Ergonomics are first rate. I can hold them steady with no more image shake than with an 8x32. The usual problems with 10x32 in the $200 - $400 range are lack of adequate eye relief, inability to achieve really sharp focus, and a distracting tunnel vision effect caused by a narrow FOV. This Terra model has good eye relief, very nearly alpha sharp focus, and a good FOV. The only thing which may be a downside, the IP distance adjustment is quite stiff and requires more hand strength than normal. On the other hand, once adjusted they are NOT going to slip out of adjustment. The current model comes with an UA harness (no standard strap included) which is high quality and compact for a harness. I rarely us a harness but any standard strap will work. The rainguard is very high quality. The objective lens covers are a bit fiddly and tend to come off but they will work and a pair of Eagle Optics tethered lens covers I got (medium I think) fit well. There is no case included (just a soft drawstring bag) but again any number of aftermarket $20 cases are available. They really hit the sweet spot with this one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Optics, Accessories Not So Much About the binos, the only minor gripe is the stiffness of the inter-pupillary adjustment. A good thing if you don't share your optics, a bad thing if you do. The image is sharp with good relief and compares equal or superior to my aus Jena, Nikon and Vortex Diamondback. That said, the rest of the stuff they send you is junk. For a case they provide a black velour drawstring pouch. What the...? The Under Armour harness works pretty good if you don't mind being a walking billboard for their brand. And worst of all is the huge plastic display case which might prevent in-store pilfering, but is awkward for storage and lacking a single recycling logo. Hopefully the guys at the recycling station can figure it out. Just include a decent strap and a cheap padded case and my vote is 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding value!! These are great binoculars. I have some that are much more expensive that are not as clear. I wear glasses and they work very well. The unexpected plus was these were the Under Armour edition and came with the harness as well as the regular strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright & Beautiful I've used these glasses for a variety of reasons (Concerts, bird watching, opera, airshows, etc.) and they are just great... really loved them. As they headline says, They are bright an beautiful. The super easy to use and they >snap< into focus. As for the Under armor harness that comes with them... I'm not as sure... there doesn't seem to be any logical way to attach it to the binoculars. I seriously doubt that the harness was designed to work with these glasses. Kind of sad that this combo doesn't work together better. So, to sum up... great (super great!) glasses and kinda useless harness.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely worth considering The 10X32 Terra Ed's are light and comfortable in my hands. They have not been used much so I will have to revisit this review in the future. At night I have been able to see stars as well as stars I could not see just by eye, but I have not been anywhere where tons of stars can be seen-no night pollution. During the day the glasses seem good. The depth of field is good and the clarity at distances seem good but I have no other brand to compare to. I would recommend these glasses but comparing other brands at the same time is smart unless you have used binoculars before. It is only my lack of experience that I scored a 4. I will review again after using the glasses for a while and probably will upgrade to 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love these binoculars! I love these binoculars! The day they arrived I watched deer and wild turkeys from my deck and I would not have even seen them without the binoculars. The Zeiss Terras have excellent optics, are solidly made, the focus mechanism is easy to use and works great! The optics are really amazing. They are sharp in the center and all the way to the edges with a tiny fall-off at the extreme edges. I think most people will be very happy with the Zeiss Terras. I bought two sets of these 10X32sone for myself and one for a gift. I also bought a pair of the 8X32 Terra and I love them also. The field of view is wider with the 8X as expected but the increased magnification of the 10X is nice. Surprisingly the minimum focus of the 10X is slightly better than for the 8X. I can focus to about 6 ft. with the 10X and about 7 ft. with the 8X. The lens caps for the eyepieces are well made and stay on very well. However the caps for the objectives are loose and fall off easily. Fortunately the tether keeps them attached so I won't lose them. The extendable eyepieces are not useful to me. I always use the binoculars with eyepieces not extended and I have no idea why anyone would use them even with glasses because the field of view drops off. Over all, I recommend these and I look forward to many years of enjoyment using these fantastic binoculars!
