Canon Rebel T6i overview

  • 1Description

Packing a high resolution 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 Image Processor into a compact body is the EOS Rebel T6i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens from Canon, which includes a versatile standard zoom lens useful for stills and video. This system enables shooting in a wide variety of conditions, from bright sunlight to dim indoor scenarios due to ISO performance of up to 12,800, which can be expanded to 25,600. The APS-C camera also has built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC that allows for wireless transfer of images and video to social networks and cloud storage via the Camera Connect mobile app. Also, NFC enables fast connection to mobile devices as well as the CS100 Connect Station.

Full HD video in MP4 format is possible with the T6i in addition to stills and it has Hybrid CMOS AF III for fast, accurate autofocus during movie shooting and during Live View. A vari-angle 3.0" 1.04M-dot ClearView II touchscreen LCD monitor on the rear of the camera allows for versatile positioning of the camera and clear viewing, even outdoors. Additionally, the EOS scene analysis system can detect near-infrared light and flickering light sources to provide the best information for metering the scene.

High speed continuous shooting at up to 5 fps ensures you will not miss a shot during fast action and this is benefited by the use of a 19-point all cross-type autofocus system. Creative filters are also available for preset looks for your photos and videos.

The EOS Rebel T6i is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It is paired here with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, which offers wide-angle to standard focal length shooting specifically designed for APS-C cameras. It is equivalent to a 28.8-88mm focal length in the 35mm format, and its minimum focus distance is 9.8". This lens features Canon's Optical Image Stabilization system, providing 4 stops of compensation for blur caused by slow shutter speeds when shooting hand-held in low light or at longer focal lengths. An internal focusing system provides fast autofocus, and with a Stepping Motor (STM) and six-group zoom system it supports the Rebel T6i's Movie Servo AF feature for smooth and quiet continuous autofocus during video recording. Manual focus override is possible. A high precision aspherical element reduces chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range for sharp imaging, and Canon lens coatings provide accurate color balance and minimal ghosting and flare.

Product Advisory: In some units of the EOS Rebel T6i white spots may exist on the optical layer which may result in the appearance of dark circular patterns on the capture image under certain shooting conditions. Potentially affected units include cameras with serials numbers of "XXnnnnnnnnnn" in which XX is 01 or 02. These cameras will be inspected and repaired free of charge by Canon USA.

24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor & DIGIC 6 Image Processor
At the core of the T6i is the 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 Image Processor, both of which work together to produce high resolution images in a variety of shooting conditions. This is possible through a native sensitivity of ISO 100-12,800, which is expandable to 25,600 for situations that demand it.
3.0" Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD Monitor
A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD monitor with 1,040k-dot resolution provides clear composition and playback viewing even in bright light. Its tilt and swivel capability makes shooting at odd angles easy, and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Seven-level brightness control is available. Intuitive touchscreen control makes menu control simple, and even offers Touch Autofocus.
Full HD 1080p Video Capture
Full HD Movie mode supports Movie Servo for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects during recording. Manual exposure control and a built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment provide high-quality control over your shooting, and multiple frame rates and resolutions provide quality-level and stylistic shooting options. Stills can be recorded during video shooting simply by pressing the camera's shutter button.
19-Point All Cross-Type AF System
For fast, accurate focusing in a variety of situations, the T6i features a 19-point all cross-type AF system. This allows for speedy focusing performance when using the viewfinder as well as in area selection modes.
Hybrid CMOS AF III
The Hybrid CMOS AF III System is utilized when shooting photos and video in Live View. Combining two different kinds of AF- phase and contrast detection- continuous focus tracking becomes faster and more accurate than ever before in Live View.
Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity with NFC
Wirelessly transfer images and videos with the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity of the T6i. When used with the Camera Connect mobile app users will be able to quickly and effectively upload files directly to social networking sites. Also, with NFC the camera can be paired to compatible mobile devices quickly, as well as to the CS100 Connect Station.

    Canon Rebel T6i reviews

EOS Rebel T6i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 109.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical Beauty We are new to DSLR Camera's and to be honest, we were intimidated at first BUT, the camera is super easy to use in auto and gives us something extra as we will soon be taking classes to learn the art of photography. We use the camera for 'everyday' use like family get togethers, kids pictures, animal picture but as I said earlier we would like to take more 'professional' style photes and will be pursuing classes. The battery life has been great as well. We went to a 1st Birthday picnic on a Saturday took a lot of picture (400+) and used again on Sunday with same charge

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to beat for the price I bought one as a gift and figured I'd test it out for a day to ensure that it wasn't as cheap as the price tag led on. Other people are right: It. Feels. Cheap. HOWEVER, it doesn't feel near as cheap (in my opinion) as a NIkon D3400 AND it fit my hand better AND the menus are better AND the info on the back screen doesn't look like a cartoonist designed it. -Quick focus -Decent in high ISO situations -Good image processor -Respectable 5fps burst -Slightly (bad word)kit lens though it DOES have IS -Well balanced -Light -Good looking -Crisp LCD -An articulating screen that make self portraits a breeze -A cheap price tag for a quality APS-C 24mp Canon -An above average battery life Is it my 5D4? Absolutely not, but for an entry level DSLR you couldn't ask for more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Than Its Reviews! The T6i hasn't been given the credit it deserves. It's been rated Average, at best, and some reviews have characterized it as a step backward from the T5i. I had a T5i (and T2i), and can say the T6i is not only a better instrument than the T5i, it is - as a whole - as good as, if not better than its major competitors. IQ is excellent, ergonomics are superior, and Canon's touch screen menu is without equal. The reasonable price of the body with kit lens saved me almost $! The money saved was used to purchase Canon's EF 200mm f2.8L II lens, that fits both the T6i, and my 60D. It's not environmentally sealed, but I haven't had any problems with my gear even though I live in a coral dust, salt air, high humidity environment. If I find anything with this camera body I don't like I'll be sure to edit my review. For now, it's everything I expected, and more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for blog photography! The camera works really great for my blog photography needs. I am impressed by the photo quality and the image stabilization as I am a novice photographer. The camera has just enough bells and whistles without overwhelming the beginner. I give it 4/5 stars as I find the camera to be a bit loud. Recently I photographed a private event and found the noise to be distracting for guests and therefore detracted from capturing as many candid shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ALL USE CAMERA When I ordered this camera, I added a 2 year protection plan. This included a camera bag and a 16gb card. I bought this camera for Christmas as an upgrade. I originally wanted to use this camera for photography, but the video quality is so good. I've started making videos! This cameras autofocus is so quiet, and fast compared to other cameras. Many people including myself, have noticed the quality difference from my previous camera. My old camera(a Nikon) has the same megapixels as this one. But this cameras pictures are sharper. Overall, this camera is a good investment, and worth your money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Camera! Nice upgrade from the T2i and T5. So far I have uploaded three videos on You Tube. It's been underneath a Union Pacific Freight Train for the recording of an underneath the train video. First of all the camera takes very good videos. The pictures come out very clearly and it picks up a whole lot of the detail in the picture. Just to top it all off, it takes very good pictures at night. Attached is a photograph that I had taken of a Clock Face at night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the right camera for my needs I needed an DSLR camera with high enough resolution to photograph my artwork to upload for sale. It worked like a charmer. I did not want to spend thousands on a camera, so this was a good into to DSLR. The colors are nice and image clear and sharp. I like editing with the canon software Digital Photo Professional 4 even better than photoshop elements. Lots of good control and ease of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice upgrade from my T2i Main use is birding. I'm still learning this camera and all that it offers, but have to say that I'm happily impressed so far with ease of use, picture quality and ease of learning. Right out of the box, I was getting nice photos and hearing things from friends about increased picture quality. I've never shot much video, but am looking forward to catching some birds in flight with the T6i. All my Canon lenses are working well with the new body.
