Canon Rebel T6s overview

  • 1Description

Adding much more control over previous models, the EOS Rebel T6s DSLR Camera from Canon is the first of its class to feature a top LCD panel, a Quick Control dial, and horizontal level. This camera also packs a high resolution 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 Image Processor into a compact body, enabling shooting in a wide variety of conditions, from bright sunlight to dim indoor scenarios due to ISO performance of up to 12,800, which can be expanded to 25,600. The APS-C camera has built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC that allows for wireless transfer of images and video to social networks and cloud storage via the Camera Connect mobile app. Also, NFC enables fast connection to mobile devices as well as the CS100 Connect Station.

Full HD video in MP4 format is possible with the T6s in addition to stills and it has Hybrid CMOS AF III for fast, accurate autofocus during movie shooting and during Live View. There is also a built-in HDR movie mode for improved shadow and highlight detail. A vari-angle 3.0" 1.04M-dot ClearView II touchscreen LCD monitor on the rear of the camera allows for versatile positioning of the camera and clear viewing, even outdoors. Additionally, the EOS scene analysis system can detect near-infrared light and flickering light sources to provide the best information for metering the scene.

High speed continuous shooting at up to 5 fps ensures you will not miss a shot during fast action and this is benefited by the use of a 19-point all cross-type autofocus system. Creative filters are also available for preset looks for your photos and videos.

Product Advisory: In some units of the EOS Rebel T6s white spots may exist on the optical layer which may result in the appearance of dark circular patterns on the capture image under certain shooting conditions. Potentially affected units include cameras with serials numbers of "XXnnnnnnnnnn" in which XX is 01 or 02. These cameras will be inspected and repaired free of charge by Canon USA.

24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor & DIGIC 6 Image Processor
At the core of the T6s are the 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 Image Processor, both of which work together to produce high resolution images in a variety of shooting conditions. This is possible through a native sensitivity of ISO 100-12,800, which is expandable to 25,600 for situations that demand it.
Top LCD Panel, Quick Control Dial, & Horizontal Level
The T6s is the first of the EOS Rebel class to feature a top LCD panel, Quick Control Dial, and horizontal level. These all contribute to improved operability of the camera. The top panel allows users to quickly and easily review settings without having to resort to the rear LCD screen or viewfinder while the Quick Control Dial enables quickly changing of settings. Also, the horizontal level ensures that your images are straight with the horizon.
3.0" Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD Monitor
A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD monitor with 1,040k-dot resolution provides clear composition and playback viewing even in bright light. Its tilt and swivel capability makes shooting at odd angles easy, and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Seven-level brightness control is available, and intuitive touchscreen control makes menu control simple, and offers Touch Autofocus.
Full HD 1080p Video Capture
Full HD Movie mode supports Movie Servo for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects during recording. Manual exposure control and a built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment provide high-quality control over your shooting, and multiple frame rates and resolutions provide quality-level and stylistic shooting options. Stills can be recorded during video shooting simply by pressing the camera's shutter button. Also, a built-in HDR movie mode will record alternating exposures at 60 fps and combine them to generate a 30 fps movie.
19-Point All Cross-Type AF System
For fast, accurate focusing in a variety of situations, the T6s features a 19-point all cross-type AF system. This allows for speedy focusing performance when using the viewfinder as well as in area selection modes.
Hybrid CMOS AF III
The Hybrid CMOS AF III System is utilized when shooting photos and video in Live View. Combining two different kinds of AF-phase and contrast detection-continuous focus tracking becomes faster and more accurate than ever before in Live View.
Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity with NFC
Wirelessly transfer images and videos with the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity of the T6s. When used with the Camera Connect mobile app users will be able to quickly and effectively upload files directly to social networking sites. Also, with NFC the camera can be paired to compatible mobile devices quickly, as well as to the CS100 Connect Station.

    Canon Rebel T6s reviews

EOS Rebel T6s DSLR Camera (Body Only) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this camera!! I am an advanced hobbiest who loves to photograph flowers and landscapes and does a lot of HDR. I owned the Canon 7D which I found to be too heavy for me to comfortably carry for an extended period of time. I replaced the 7D with the T6s and I'm very happy with my choice. I love the touch screen control, it's about half the weight and the picture quality is excellent. Having used several Canon cameras, I was familiar with the menu setup so it was a very short learning curve to get used to this new one. The only thing I miss from the 7D is the 3 custom settings to store common shooting settings. I wish every camera came with those. Otherwise, I am VERY happy with it and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The right time to upgrade for me I have had the Rebel T4i for two years now and have been extremely happy with it. As the newer models have come out they have not had enough of an upgrade for me to justify a new camera. With the T6s it has incorporated so many features that are on the more expensive versions for a much more wallet friendly price that it was time for me to make the change. I am nothing but happy with this camera. All the familiarity of the camera I have been using with more MegaPixels and a bevy of user friendly additions. I feel right at home and almost like a professional photographer when I have this camera out and am snapping pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased with purchase Owning a Canon Xti for 10 years, I decided to upgrade and chose the T6s after exhaustive research. I wanted a new camera that had more pixels, a bigger touch screen, updated focus technology, and better overall photo quality. Oh, it shouldn't be big and weigh a ton as I travel and hike a lot. I didn't care about video or wifi at all and never considered this in my hunt. It also had to be cost-effective for my wants and needs. The T6s filled the bill all the way. There's a lot of new info to learn, but it looks easy so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If your looking at this one, just buy it! It's amazing. This is the best camera I've held in my hands since my elan7e! I've bought several rebel digital cams over the years only because I can't justify the cost of better cams for my hobby. This cam is just a blessing. From the top info screen to the ease of switching WB, ISO, exposure bracketing, AV and TV at the tips of your fingers, makes me feel like a pro due to its intuitive layout in construction. for under $1k including Batery pack and extra batery, it's the deal of the century across all makes and models! I even considered the t7i but felt it would have been a downgrade in comparison to the t6s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera, even better service from Canon First, this camera replaced my earlier Canon Rebel T2i model. It is a considerable upgrade and well worth it. I had pre-ordered it from B&H and received it on the day Canon released it so I had one of the early production run models. Great camera!! But, you may have heard that some of the early models had a problem with a faulty sensor (spotting when using some settings). Canon was quick to annouce the problem and let consumers know what they could do about it. I took my T6S into the Canon Service Center in Costa Mesa, CA to have it examined. Sure enough it was one of the affected models. Canon's response... sent me a brand new camera within a week; didn't repair it but sent a brand new replacement. Canon is a top-notch company and deserves credit for its handling of an obvious manufacturing flaw. Did I mention... I love this camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth The Upgrade I upgraded from a T2i and it was really worth it. Several of the early design flaws have been fixed. New flexibility in selecting shooting modes like P vs Ai+. No significant increase in weight or size. Picture quality excellent. On line pdf manual is very complete. Called Canon support to answer a very technical question & got good response.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So happy! Having been very happy with my Canon T2i for more than 5 years, I was nervous about making the change and having to adjust to a new camera. It has been a seamless transition. The T6s is very easy to use! I've been most impressed with image quality and ease of focusing. I also looked at the 70D and other D series cameras but did not want more weight/size to carry when hiking. Excited to take it on our next adventure trip!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with my purchase! I've had a Rebel XSi for seven years, was looking to upgrade. My budget is not full frame budget. I also thought about the 80D, however, most of my photography is casual, often while in the woods or walking around so I preferred the lighter weight of the T6s. I love the new features, the touch screen, the placement of the controls, the additional ISO. The upgraded sensor and additional megapixel shows up in the photos I did read along the way that the battery does not last as long as other models, and that is true. Be sure to buy an extra. Depending on which focal points you use and your subject, I found the auto focus seems to be a bit confused when focusing. I would assume this is one of the reasons for the battery usage, and any focusing issue is likely something I just need to learn how to work with. I describe myself as an amateur, amateur photographer. I believe my photography skills have improved since I started with my Rebel in 2009, but there is still much for me to learn.
