    Kirk LP-61 reviews

LP-61 Replacement Foot for Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! While I'm happy with Canon's supplied foot, I need to mount the lens using an Arca Swiss compatible mount (I own both Kirk and RRS clamps). My choices were this foot or adding a standard plate to the Canon foot. I opted for this one because it's more compact than the combination and requires fewer partsboth of which should improve stability a bit. The Kirk LP-61 is outstanding. It's longer than Canon's foot, so it provides a better clamping surface. It's almost the same profile as the Canon foot, so it fits into Canon's supplied lens case. And it works well even with battery grips mounted on my cameras (EOS 5DSR, 7D Mark II). For me, this design won over another one I looked at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Foot for a great lens I have been using the new Canon 100-400 as a second lens in bird blinds for those times when a 500mm is too much lens. Actually finding that I am using the 100-400 more than I thought I would. The replacement foot works great. I find that on my Wimberly tripod head that the two small movement limiting screws have no effect. They do not prevent the travel of the foot in the clamp. Also, the wrench supplied to put the small screws in the base of the foot is slightly undersized and the socket on the screw strips out. Not problem yet but don't over tighten. Love the new foot. Recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why get this, you ask? This great lens comes with its own foot, so why did I replace it? To use the Canon foot to its best utility, one must attach a QR plate (like an AS compatible plate) and that adds bulk (harder to fit in the case)and weight. Then, there is the possibility of either the plate to foot or the foot to lens collar failing. I replaced the foot with this Kirk foot and only have one connectiion. And, the Kirk plate allows a better fit in the camera bag. There is plenty of room to use this as a hand hold and it feets quite secure. The only negative is that unlike the Canon foot, this requires a 3mm Allen key to attach and detach but that's not a big deal since I can't see that I'd ever remove it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is better than the original foot. The original foot of the lens has been a nightmare since I bought the lens. First the sleeve at the foot dislodged itself because of the small plate at the base of the lens held by 4 sub-par screws can not tighten securely the plate. On the other hand, the Kirk foot fits perfect, great design, no need to attach an Arca Plate to the already flawed plate. Too bad Canon did not thought about it while designing the Lens. This Kirk replacement foot is an outstanding product worthy of the expense.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great quality - with a few minor downsides Don't mistake this as merely a third-party replacement foot -- in many ways, it's better than the Canon foot that came with the lens. It makes so much more sense to have the foot be arca-type compatible so you can mount it directly to the tripod quick release, rather than needing to screw on an additional quick release plate like you do with the OEM foot. The only reason I deducted a star is 1) price is a bit steep; 2) I wish the slot for attaching the strap was toward the back of the foot, rather than at the front; the way it is now, because it's so far forward, the center of balance is way off when you carry the lens & camera by the strap; 3) this foot is rather low profile, which is good in terms of portability and keeping the center of gravity low when mounted on the tripod -- but that also means there's not a lot of room between the foot and the lens if you're the type (like me) who likes to carry the lens by the foot. Even with fairly skinny hands and fingers, I have trouble comfortably using this foot as a handle for carrying the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit and made in the USA! This replacement for the Canon foot works perfectly with the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM II. It also fits into the Canon lens case while attached to the lens. I strongly recommend installation of the included cap screw stops to prevent this heavy lens from sliding out of your arca-swiss compatible mounting clamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This is how canon should have built their foot for this lens. Works great, has a threaded hole so I can use my Black Rapid strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality replacement that I would purchase again Originally used the supplied Canon foot which was stable but too large to fit in my backpack with an Arca plate attached. This exceptionally well made replacement foot is more compact to begin with and has Arca compatible grooves already machined in so no additional plate is required. Now fits in my bag without removing the foot which makes use much simpler and quicker.
