The JDV Mk 5 Direct Box from Radial Engineering is a two-channel discrete class‐A active direct box which is primarily intended for use with bass and acoustic instruments but is also capable of handling other types of signals. The JDV retains the original zero‐negative feedback topology, yet adds an array of features. Its design includes two switchable inputs, each with a volume control and signal presence & overload LEDs, plus a fully variable high-pass filter to tame excessive bottom end resonance. The channel-one balanced input with 48V phantom power allows a microphone to be combined with the second channel (and adjustable phase control) to produce a natural sound. Selecting between the two inputs can be done using the front panel AB select or by adding an optional JR2 remote control. This also enables you to mute the output to change instruments or quiet down the system between sets. The unit is also equipped with a line level drive option for direct recording, a Drag control load correction for magnetic pickups, and a 10 Mohm option to maximize the tone with piezos. It is conveniently rack-mountable for touring.
