Marshall Electronics V-SG4K-HDI Overview

The V-SG4K-HDI 4K HDMI Portable Signal Generator from Marshall Electronics is a compact and portable digital test generator that is ideal for video engineers, system integrators/installers, shooters and product designers. This unit is capable of generating various combinations of display resolutions, sampling, and frame rates in the digital spectrum, along with an array of audio combinations.

Equipped with complete EDID interface software, the V-SG4K-HDI is capable of emulating any device to which it is connected. The V-SG4K-HDI comes complete with a Windows compatible computer application that provides the option of rapid remote control operations and operates equally well with the on-board push button panel.

The test generator allows easy field calibration, testing and maintenance of many applications such as: production line quality assessment; studio equipment for both installers and users; television sets by TV engineers or technicians; digital signage configurations with extenders, switches, splitters or video wall processors; and discerning home theater users. Using the corresponding video cable needed, simply connect the video test pattern generator to the supported display unit to run the test patterns on the screen. No other video source, such as a computer, DVD player or set-top box is needed for the testing process.

Can this be used to test an HDMI cable's capacity in Gbps? Specifically to HDMI 2.0 standards for Ultra HD. It's my understanding that longer active cables are not compliant with 2.0 standards. It looks like you are saying they are. Can you comment? thanks

this unit can generate signals that are 4k / UHD - so you could use it as a sample source to test your HDMI cables and see if they will work for your application. Odds are the cable you have,if not purchased very recently, is not HDMI 2.0 but may still work for your application

We have started installing 50' HDMI cables, and recently fiber optic HDMI cables.. We currently have an HDMI tester, but it won't push a test signal with the longer cable. Will this work with those cables?

Standard HDMI cables tend to only be able to send a signal 35 feet, so the issue you are facing will not be solved by purchasing a new HDMI Tester. Instead you would need to look in to boosting the HDMI signal, we have products for that. Gefen makes Super Booster HDMI cables in a variety of lengths starting at 50 feet. Another option is an HDMI LAN Extender which uses Cat6 cables, Avenview makes a very good product for that.
