SHAPE FS7BP Reviews

The Shoulder Mount Camera -- Finally Shoulder Mountable!

As a film student, BFA Film - Cinematography - Purchasing the Sony FS-7 was a no brainer. The ergonomics of an ENG style cam? Icing on the cake! The ability to securely mount this little guy? Something to be desired. I'm 6'5 plus some change--the FS-7 was not made with my body size in mind. With the SHAPE baseplate, however, I can put this sucker in a perfectly balanced configuration and get the in your face camera movements and CUs I desired from this camera out of the box. I'm not sure how the other baseplates rank, but what had me sold was the modeling of the plate to the FS-7's more unique footprint. The result: it looks beautiful, feels sturdy as a rock and allows for numerous configurations to fit any shooting style! Only issue seems to be the mounting of non Sony-style tripod mounts. Can't figure out how to attach it directly to a standard arca or manfrotto QR :/

question

Does it fit on the FS7M2 too?
Asked by: Rene
Hello ReneThank you for your question! Indeed it does! You can mount the FS7M2 on it without a problem. To enhance its stability, you can add our FS7RIP, a rear insert plate that you can find on our website. You can install that plate at the back of the camera, replacing the rubber pad that comes with the camera. We hope this helps and we thank you for your interest in our products. The SHAPE team

question

I just purchased my fs7 with this plate & quickly found out that you can't attach it to a normal manfrotto tripod plate. Can someone please tell me which plate I now need to get so I can actually put this on my tripod? (509HD) Thanks

The shoulder plant mounts to the Sony VCT tripod plate, and I've found it works very well.Karel B

question

Is anyone having poblems with it clicking properly into VCT14? I have to remove the shoulder pad for it to click into place securely and even then mostly it doesnt click into the rear screw. I bought a new VCT14 thinking that was the issue but I still have the same problem
Asked by: Anthony 'Ash' B.
I feel like I had a similar issue when I first got the base plate, but maybe over time it's been able to fit better into the quick release plate. In the beginning I might've press down on the camera to help secure it. I probably still make sure that it's clicking in the place of the rear lock.

question

Can you mount the camera to this baseplate using the center screws, shifting the camera back an inch or so, similar to the zacuto baseplate?
Asked by: Ryan
Just be aware that you will likely go through the adjustment game forever if using the shoulder mount for anything off of sticks. I know they sell an accessory wedge to place under the rear of the camera. Might be worth looking into if you are for sure going to change the screw placement.
