I have an older ProSafe GS108from B&H and need another 5 ports for Link Aggregation so I can connect my MacPro 2012 to my Synology DS1515+ to achieve faster transfer/rconnectivity speeds. Is his a good choice in the Netgear range? I don't mind going to a 5 port unit as I don't need 5 ports? What model if not this unit would be as good/same specs as this one in the Netgear range? Please also advise whether connecting 2units just requires a simple CAT 5e cable between them to achieve the port expansion and whether one needs a powered unit and if a powered unit is better than a non- powered switch? Thanks.
The Netgear ProSafe 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch BH #NEGS105NA would be the 5 port version.
Yes, you can connect 2 network switches with an Ethernet cable and they need to have their own power supply. Although possible, it is not recommended to daisy chain switches unless you absolutely have to so you are better off just getting the 8 port model if you foresee the needs for more ports in the future.
