Glide Gear Dev 4 Overview

The Glidecam DEV 4 Dolly features 4 ft rails and can be set up on flat surfaces or two tripods or stands. Its large size allows for better control compared to smaller systems, and its frictionless wheel platform ensures highly quiet, smooth, and consistent slides with loads of up to 50 lb. Optional 4 ft rail extensions are also available (model # XDV 4) to give you the travel distance for more dynamic shots.

The rails lock into the end mounts, and the wheels cannot roll past the mounts. There are three sets of four wheels secured into heavy-duty wheel mounts on the camera baseplate. All three sets can be rotated 360° by simply lifting the baseplate and turning the wheels. Between takes, you can turn the front set of wheels 90° and it will function as a brake so that your baseplate stays in place.

The end mounts offer 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes on the bottom for tripod/stand mounting, and the baseplate has a total of 28 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes.

question

is this thing wobbly at all? my cameras are 12 and 28lbs do you think the rails would flex at all
Asked by: Steve
The rails on this unit are made out of aircraft grade aluminum and the baseplate and wheels have a load capacity of up to 50 pounds. This would be very steady with loads between 12 to 28 pounds.

question

For longer dolly moves, I'd rather get speedrail than connect two separate pieces. Is there a way to adapt speedrail or solid pipe into this bracket system?
Asked by: Alexander A.
Not familiar with speedrail. But, the end pieces of this rail snap onto the tubes. If you have other pipes/tubes that match the diameter of these, then you could use them. The trolly is solid, heavy, and would probably roll nicely on almost any tubes set the right distance apart.

question

Can the rail mounts be mounted to c-stands or do you need to use tripods?
Asked by: Doug S.
Yes you need a baby pin. Not a upper sturdy mount however. I'm having a real mount made to take speed rail.
