Profoto B2 250 Air overview

  • 1Description

This B2 250 Air TTL To-Go Kit from Profoto is an ideal way to get into the game-changing battery-powered flash system that includes the B2 250 AirTTL Power Pack, Flash Head and tailor-made OCF (Off-Camera Flash) accessories. The kit includes the pack, a battery, charger, 1 B2 flash head, padded Location Bag and a Carrying Bag with shoulder strap. Complete the kit and get full wireless TTL operation with the purchase of a dedicated AirRemote TTL transceiver for your Canon or Nikon Camera.

Intended for the road, the B2 250 AirTTL Power Pack measures 6.3 x 3.1 x 6.7" and weighs in at just 2.2 lb with its Li-Ion battery. The B2's twin outlets each have a dedicated thumbwheel that allows the pack's 250Ws of power to be distributed asymmetrically over a 9-stop range in full or 1/10 steps.

The digital LED screen that displays the power settings is also the key to the pack's many capabilities. The B2 boasts recycling times from 0.03 - 1.35 sec., and an action-stopping flash duration of 1/1,000 sec. There is also a Freeze Mode that selects a flash duration of 1/15,000 sec. at lower power settings - fast enough to "freeze" water droplets, spray and splashes. Bursts of up to 20 frames per second are possible while High Speed Sync allows shutter sync speeds from 1/4,000 - 1/8,000 sec., giving you wide ambient light control options. The pack's Li-Ion battery can be charged in or out of the pack and will give you up to 215 full-power flashes on a 45-60 minute charge from a multi-voltage 2.8A battery charger or a trickle charge from an optional car charger.

At 1.5 lb, the sturdily built B2 Off-Camera Flash Head measures 4" long, has a 3.9" diameter and fits in the palm of your hand. A barely-visible umbrella channel runs through the top of the head, while its tethered 6.5' head cable can be lengthened with a 9.8' extension for large groups or for hanging in hard to reach places. An included stand or pole-mount with a ratcheting handle can be removed for mounting to a flash bracket. The B2's flash tube and 50W halogen-equivalent LED modeling lamp are protected by a frosted glass plate, while its 3.9" diameter housing accepts a line of optional accessories that includes OCF-tailored softboxes, barndoors, a snoot, and a grid set. They can also be used on the B1 battery-powered monolight.

Profoto B2 250 Air reviews

B2 250 Air TTL To-Go Kit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better for fast shooting, outdoor I photograph many weddings in Yosemite every year and need a durable, powerful flash for outdoor use, The B1 is wonderful but not good for putting on a light stand 15 ft in the air due to it's heavy construction and battery, The B2 is much more flexible allowing me to put it on an adapted painter's pole to great effect( especially with a large reflector like the Magnum) . The lower power of the B2 does require me to put my light closer to the subject in some case such as HSS. But since I have a B1 it is not really an issue. Having said that the B2 is more flexible in low light environments too since it power down to at least a stop less than the B1 which is too powerful for most wedding prep environments. I find that a B1 double diffused is often still too hot for a standard hotel room wedding prep environment but a B2 is just right. I will be using my B2 much more than the B1 for most location wedding work but together I can light up just about any venue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORKS GREAT! I own 4 Profoto B1 heads and I bought the B2 specifically to mount on my camera bracket to use during wedding receptions. I've already had the opportunity to use it on one wedding and it worked flawlessly. I carried the battery pack inside the carrying bag and i had no issue removing it from its case when i replaced the battery. I did try to carry the battery on my belt so i wouldn't have to use the shoulder straps but i found the battery a little heavy for that. Overall, the B2 was jus as reliable as my B1's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy the profoto b2 works great This Kit is awesome very light weight don't take up much space I have a very small studio celling is not that high but with the profoto b2 light kit it worked great just that extra room I needed,as far as power they hung right in there with my B1s.one of the best investment I made so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Profoto B2 I'm a location portrait photographer and I always use OCF. I switched over from Elinchrom Quadra Ranger kit to the B2 kit and I'm very happy. The quality of the construction is so much better. Being on location, there is a lot of wear and tear and the Elinchrom kit just wasn't rugged. Plastic pieces were constantly breaking. The Profoto OFC modifiers are exceptional. I'm very happy I made the switch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product on the expensive side I bought the profoto B2 with one flash head. My first impressions: - setup was easy, no need to read the documentation - the flash seems to deliver the same light intensity between shots - get a spare battery, if you use full power you will be out of battery very fast, probably around 200 shots (or a little bit over 200 shots). - if you want to mount the flash head on a camera bracket you will need a special attach to do that. The flash head on the flash bracket makes your equipment heavier, especially if you shoot with a battery grip and a 70-200 mm lens f/2.8 - if you are on a tight budget and need accessories, may i suggest the snoot from profoto with the grids. - if you are tired of ISO 4000/6400 and hate your curtain speed, with this kit you will be able to shoot in ISO 400 with 1/8000th - possibility to freeze action - lighting and color match well - There are less expensive equipments on the market with more power (Indura 500 WS for example) but i chose profoto hoping i will get a good service if i need spare parts. - 250 WS with 1 or 2 flash heads Planning to upgrade to a 2nd flash head in a few weeks. I've done a quick review in french on youtube, it's called deballage profoto B2 et accessoires if someone is interested. I will complete this review within a few more months after a better user experience to give evaluative feedbacks. So far I am extremely satisfied with the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery is a dud After much anticipation I finally received my B2 kit, but the battery doesn't work. At all! So, I bought a several thousand dollar piece of equipment that I can't use. To top it off I live in Italy, so trying to get a replacement lithium battery will be an absolute nightmare. Highly disappointed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Professional grade lighting in a small package This Profoto B2 kit is my go to for portraits outside the studio. Lightweight as compared to competitors, reliable with a very quick refresh rate, easy to use and operate and can easily be mounted on a monopod or light stand. This was my first Profoto product and I was up and running in minutes with no issues. The modeling light that is built in is great for helping pre-visualize the shot and I found that if you turn off the battery pack when not in use on the shoots, you will get more life that is even advertised. Comes with a great carrying case and I highly recommend this kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Convention and Cosplay Location Photography I am a Convention and Cosplay photographer, and so having this lighting setup as a mobile system works out great for me. The system is relatively lightweight, and is so simple to use. I was already using High Speed Sync on day one, and haven't even cracked open the manual! The power, lightweight and simplicity are perfect, and I am also keenly aware that further down the line this system can be upgraded and integrated with B1 lighting setups allowing amazing expandibility options. The Pros: Lightweight Portable Great for location shooting The Cons Battery wears down quickly (even with one light). Therefore you'll likely be looking to purchase a second battery soon.
